The Texas school board voted to require Bible stories in K-12 curriculum.
As someone who went to Catholic school my entire life, I can tell you, there's no better way to grow atheism and agnosticism than to force-feed the Bible to children.
@NWDisorder1111 Too bad. I (Gen X) remember my grandparents doing a lot for my parents. Babysit, chauffeur, clean, iron, cut the grass, etc. My parents didn’t do it for me bc they had me young & I had my kids young, so they had to work. I hope I can one day help my kids when they have a family
@ayogiovanna No messy bedrooms allowed. Mother swept the “mess” on my desk onto the floor while screaming at me to clean it up. Grandparents would shame me. Grades low due to ADHD & undiagnosed astigmatism.
Moved out of the authoritarian house, went to college, got glasses & now have a PhD!
@FixingEducation Finances & family issues. Been there, done that.
AA > BA > MS > PhD
It took years. Having a spouse with a higher, stable income and no serious health issues with family members is the only reason why I was able to continue.
@detroitsux FIL was thinking of selling his truck. Kinda old, he bought it used 5 years earlier. Spouse asked what he wanted for it. He said “I’ll sell it to you for what I bought it for”. It wasn’t even worth that much. I was in shock he said that, but that’s how he is.
@lorahmoe Moved to a new town when I was a teen. Mom said I didn’t have to go with her to meet the new priest at 8am on Saturday. She changed her mind at 7:30 & woke me up. I sat there with a scowl on my face the entire time and she still hasn’t stopped complaining about it decades later.
