Because Pakistani is a nationality, not an ethnicity, I started digging a little deeper into my own identity.

Today my dad tells me he's Punjabi, of Khorasani/Central Asian descent - that his ancestors migrated from Central Asia and the Iranian plateau into the Indian subcontinent and assimilated over generations.

When Partition happened in 1947, his father was already living on what became the Pakistan side of the border.

My dad then moved to England when he was 17.

So naturally, I’ve now gone down a complete ancestry rabbit hole now.

This is what the process of multi-generational migration and assimilation looks like.
