A somewhat unknown ethnic group are the Isleños of Southeast Louisiana.
The late 1700s saw an influx of Canary Islanders move to what was then Spanish territory. Historically, many were sugarcane planters.
Today, a small % still identify as Spanish. Map by county below:
In 2011, a stretch of I-195 that ran right through the heart of Providence was demolished, freeing up 26-acres of Downtown adjacent land for new housing and an innovation district, reconnecting neighborhoods divided by the highways construction.
