If an A&E clinician needs to rely on a GP letter to make a correct diagnosis in a child with acute abdominal pain….
they are NOT qualified to manage undifferentiated patients in A&E.
It is that simple.
@flymepegasus hi my 2 big suitcases got lost in the flight from Stansted to karachi - we have a reference number but can this please be looked into asap as it has medical things needed urgently
The Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA) is deeply concerned by the recent law & order breakdown in Pakistan. According to credible reports, more than one hundred people have been killed in sectarian violence in Kurram district of Pukhtunkhwa over the last one week. Political unrest in Islamabad has led to the tragic loss of both civilian and law enforcement lives. APPNA strongly condemns all loss of life.
The primary responsibility of a government is ensuring the right to life for the public. The situation in Kurram district is most grave. Fifty-two people were killed in a terrorist attack on a civilian convoy only about a week ago. Sectarian violence has since flared up resulting in more killings on almost daily basis. Road closures due to security situation has led to a shortage of food and medicines in the area.
The provincial government, which has the primary responsibility for maintaining law and order in the area, has thus far not been able to control the situation. We demand that it take urgent and concrete steps in bringing normalcy to the area and ensuring a peaceful life to the people.
APPNA is also deeply concerned about the unfortunate violence during the recent political protest in Islamabad. It holds both the government and the opposition responsible for escalation of political temperature that culminated in the tragic loss of life.
Violence is never a solution, and political matters are best dealt with by dialogue. APPNA strongly condemns the reported use of live ammunition against the protestors that resulted in loss of life. The government must immediately open an impartial investigation, fix responsibility for both civilian and uniformed deaths, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
The right to peaceful assembly is a fundamental right and must be respected. The government must not deny the right to hold peaceful protests. At the same time, the organizers of such protests must ensure that no violence ensues from the participants.
There is no place for violence in any civilized society. The government must respect the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution. Pakistan cannot afford continuing political strife. The government and opposition must immediately engage in a constructive political dialogue and resolve the issues confronting the country.

Only in the last week, I came to know about 3 brilliant UK-trained Psychiatrists who are moving to Canada for better prospects.
This is usually one-way traffic.
Highly skilled brain drain.
Congratulations to Hamza Khan for winning the World Junior Squash Championship for Pakistan after 37 years.
The whole nation is proud of his achievement.
@andrewgregory@NHSE_WTE@NHSEngland I was compelled to write about it in 2019 after seeing 8 years of seeing this and media not caring, government not caring and of course NHS E, HEE and NHS workforce clearly not caring

My parents’ pulmonologist, ENT & cardiologist in Saudi are ex NHS doctors at ~ £25k/month with paid accommodation+annual flights home. We have chats about how they’re so glad they left when they did, paid off their mortgages within 2 years, and are grateful to be able to send kids to the best private schools 💁🏻♂️
Every day, I am reading posts from junior doctors comparing their income with taxi drivers, electricians & plumbers.
We recruit the best brains into medicine and leave them with this level of discontent.
Not good for the profession & the future of health service.
One doctor posted on the IMG group.
"Let's make a WhatsApp group for those junior doctors looking to move to Australia."

Our health leaders are unable to read the pulse of the workforce.
Storytime: Rushed my mother to the emergency at #Shifa Hospital yesterday. Her leg was bleeding profusely due to ruptured varicose veins. At the reception, they asked if we were service or private. We chose to say private cz we were in a hurry & tbh, I didn't think it mattered 1/
NHS is hooked to foreign doctors.
Several countries are hooked to UK-trained doctors, leaving for a better quality of life & pay.
What makes us think that when university graduates doctors are leaving, apprentice route doctors will stay?
