Andrew Neil just delivered a BRUTAL reality check to Andy Burnham after that highly praised conference speech.
The praise has been wildly over the top. Some commentators parked their critical thinking because it suited their biases. Thankfully, as usual, Andrew Neil is not one of them.
On the latest @TheNeilReport, he pointed out what Burnham left out of all those lavish plans. The glaring omission: tax rises are coming.
As Neil put it: “It’s quite the socialist manifesto.”
Higher taxes are inevitable.
“In place of markets, privatisation, competition, Mr Burnham wants more state ownership, more state control, much bigger government and higher taxes. Of course he didn’t say higher taxes. Well, he wouldn’t, would he? But if you’re going to have bigger government and more state control and ownership, then there will have to be higher taxes. One follows the other.”
Prepare yourselves. He’s coming for your money to fund his socialist utopia.
Neil also noted that all the big-ticket items were for later. Next parliament. Next manifesto. Almost nothing for the here and now.
Nothing serious on defence or foreign policy. “He glossed over. Barely gave it the time of day.”
Nothing on the imminent “tough” winter or the fuel crisis.
Rising inflation. Rising interest rates. Rising youth unemployment. Rising costs of government borrowing. Nothing.
He finished with this warning: “Mr Burnham deserves his day in the sun. He should enjoy it, because it’s all about to get much darker, much more difficult. Reality is about to strike this winter. His 10-year plan is likely to be unravelling before spring has sprung.”
Puts a slightly different spin on things, doesn’t it 😂
🚨 Newcastle United and England defender Dan Burn made the most of his weekend off by enjoying a meal at one of the North East’s most highly regarded restaurants.
With Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures paused for the international break, and Burn not included in England’s squad, the Blyth-born fan favourite headed to Restaurant Pine at Vallum Farm in Northumberland.
The restaurant’s team were delighted to welcome him and shared a photo on social media, describing it as a “real pleasure” to have the Newcastle and England defender visit.
Pine has become a favourite with a number of well-known faces. Former England striker Gary Lineker previously praised the restaurant’s tasting menu, while actress Jodie Comer has also visited while filming in the region.
The restaurant is currently shortlisted for Best Restaurant of the Year Outside London at the 2026 Food & Travel Reader Awards, alongside several other highly regarded restaurants from across the UK.

Be scared taxpayers, be very afraid because the Labour front bench don’t have any financial acumen between them. Labour have never understood finance and prove it whenever they are in power!
Bond markets turn on Burnham
The verdict’s in.
The markets see a socialist PM in complete denial about the state of the UK’s public finances with no plan or strategy for rectifying them.
We have student activist at the wheel, driving us off a cliff. https://t.co/IhF3njNiUj
The Sixth Formers are in charge! God help us! @andyburnham blaming Thatcher and Brexit for UK 🇬🇧 problems was as predictable and depressing as I predicted! He is bigger moron then @Keir_Starmer
Leftists are celebrating Burnham as the Messiah.
Markets ousted Liz Truss after her mini-budget sent gilt yields soaring and the pound crashing. She lasted 44 days.
Andy Burnham, 44 days in: 10-year gilts at their highest since 2008, 30-year at a 28-year high.
Headroom slashed by up to £14bn.
Worse figures. He should already be gone.
This government are planning to help people on benefits this winter with help with their energy bills.
How about also helping those who don’t claim benefits, work hard & still struggle to pay their extortionate bills.
Also as this government keep saying that Pensions are a benefit then ALL pensioners should be entitled as well.
It’s wrong that only people on benefits get all the help & yet workers get absolutely NOTHING.
I left school at 15yrs & went into full-time employment.
Married at 19yrs & went on & had 2 children.
We paid taxes all our working life
We eventually paid our mortgage off, helped our children get on the property ladder.
I certainly am not prepared to allow this government to take everything we have worked hard for in order to pay for others that just stroll into this country & are given everything for free.
There are a lot of others in the same situation who’ve always done right by this country.
We as a family have not taken a penny in benefits from this country.
This government needs to get their priorities right & start treating UK Citizens with the respect they deserve.
Remember, it is more statistical likely that Lewis Hamilton wins in Hungary than it is for the polesitter to win in Hungary
Pole to win rate in Hungary: 40% (16/40)
Hamilton's win rate in Hungary: 42.1% (8/19)
“I have to speak up about Andy Burnham.
I worked with him over 8 years. He played the part. He was accommodating and good fun. I discovered he was also a liar. He lied to my face.
I decided he was a shit bag, a puppet.”
