When we were kids, I remember watching ads of children consuming Lays, Boost, Kissan Jams, Horlicks, Maida Breads, Cakes etc. Back then, awareness was low and our parents bought these products for us looking at the marketing. We also felt it was cool to consume them. We used to get some toys also when we bought high sugar products.
I am sure all 80s and 90s kids can relate to this.
All these products gave the impression that they were good for us. I remember enjoying these products.
The taste of high sugar and palm oil, is a brilliant combination for the taste buds. Maida bread dipped in Bournvita is a classic example of this. I used to enjoy it, and even today, if I eat it, I would feel bliss. But is it healthy? Not really. Would I buy a 500 gm pack of such powders today? Absolutely not.
When we became parents, awareness was higher. Today, thanks to people like Revant @foodpharmer2 and social media, we know what is good. We look at labels and try to buy products which have low added sugar and better ingredients. We educate our children on what is good for them.
We also try to avoid roadside food, because we know that high quality and low price is never a good combination. When a paneer dish is served at low cost, we know that it is not necessarily Paneer ๐
I am happy that we are giving our children a better food understanding and they deserve to have a healthier lifestyle.
Our current generation is high on cholesterol and sugar, mainly because of the food and sedentary lifestyle. This is changing now in India.
We are asking questions and we are seeing some amazing brands coming up with healthier alternatives. Awareness is building as well. Our next generation need not repeat the same mistakes we did.
We are all evolving !!! And it is great that we are making healthier conscious choices. Let us give our family better products and read labels. Question unethical practices !!!
Cheers to a better future,
