As the series explains, Mira isn’t just becoming Thee’s bodyguard, she’s replacing Mok and becoming Thee head bodyguard and personal assistant, responsible not only for his safety but also for assisting with the Arseni family’s affairs.

Thee is alone in Thailand, and his Arseni branch is a descendant branch of the Hong Kong Arseni family. Mok has lived with and served the Lee family since childhood, so he understands better than anyone what this position demands. On top of that, he doesn’t know Mira personally or professionally.

Mok isn’t handing over an ordinary office job. He’s entrusting the lives of the people he considers family to someone he’s never met. Of course he’s going to be cautious and make sure she’s capable of handling that responsibility.

Some people also seem to forget that this is a mafia family. Just because the series is a comedy doesn’t change the fact that their world is dangerous and Male-dominant. In that context, it’s reasonable for Mok to be skeptical of any new head bodyguard replacing him until they’ve proven they can protect Thee and his family.

I keep seeing people say there's "no storyline," but I honestly disagree. I think a lot of viewers are watching the series through the lens of their own expectations instead of letting the story unfold on its own.

From the beginning, we've been repeatedly shown that Rome is very much like his father. His laid-back attitude is a façade, not who he truly is. That's why Mok was frustrated with him at the shooting range. It looked like he wasn't taking the meeting seriously, but in reality, Rome had finally gotten the love of his life. He was excited to finally be with Mok, no matter which branch he was assigned to, because that had always been the plan.

Now imagine this: you've already been separated from your brother and the person you love. After finally finding your way back to each other, you're looking forward to building a life together. Then, overnight, everything changes. Suddenly you're no longer being sent to oversee a branch instead you've been chosen to become the next leader of Arseni.

As Khun Thee explained in Episode 1, leading Arseni is a thousand times harder than running a branch. He even compared Arseni to raising a tiger to become a warrior. Something so dangerous that someone has to keep it under control. That person is now Rome. So of course he's shaken by the responsibility. He understands exactly how dangerous this position is.

Then we get to Episode 2, where Rome says, "If I had known I was going to become the next leader of Arseni, I wouldn't have fallen in love." I don't agree with making that decision for someone else, but I completely understand why Rome feels that way.

Remember what's already happened. They were attacked at Khun Thee's birthday party when they were kids which is why they were separated. Their mother was kidnapped and tortured. Mok even said when he was Khun Thee's bodyguard, "My job is to take a bullet for you."

Now imagine Mok becoming Rome's bodyguard while also being the person he loves. It doesn't matter that Mok is a highly trained mafia assassin. You wouldn't want the person you love taking a bullet for you, being kidnapped, tortured, or dying because of your position.

As the leader of Arseni, that danger becomes their everyday reality. That's the weight Rome is carrying, and it's why he said what he did.
To me, that's a story. It's about protecting the one you love, Wanting to keep them safe even though you know he is skilled, and the emotional cost of power. The plot is building, and we're only have four episodes . Naturally, the pacing has to move quickly while laying the groundwork for what's to come.
As someone who's read the books and is also watching the adaptation, I'm really enjoying the complexity of these characters. I like that I don't know exactly what's going to happen next. I hope people can set aside their expectations of who they want these characters to be and instead appreciate them for who they actually are.

And at the end of the day, this is an adaptation and not a scene for scene recreation of the novels. I'm happy to let the series tell its own version of the story.

What I'm hoping to see in Episode 3 is Rome and Mok finally having an honest conversation, opening up about their fears, acknowledging what they're both feeling, and working together to come up with a plan. Communication is exactly what they need right now.
