@aliebman@frankjotzo good point.
1.5+ ºC of heating is already “committed” from historical emissions b/c hysteresis in climate & attendant ecosystems (eg Amazon is now a net emitter not sink + coral reef decline → trophic sea-life decline → less sink)
also coal today emits >0.2 ºC of cooling SLCP.
@WhatsNewsHere@simple_cajun@NickKristof the verification is described in the article. maybe you couldn't stomach reading it. understandable, it's totally disgusting and the word about these war crimes has been around for many years, but now people are prepared to overcome cultural stigma and talk about it to media.
@Poncho06259729@JonesHowDareYou@SenatorWong there is no reliable source for that number, and unlike Israel, journalists are free to work and move around Iran as they please. no NGO has confirmed it. offical number is ~3k and there's a lot of uncertainty as to who was doing some of the shooting.
@not_stroking@JonesHowDareYou@SenatorWong the majority of people in the world have a different view to you. Israel is now regarded as a greater threat to peace than Putin's Russia and CCP China combined. Not to mention a massive threat to economic wellbeing for any nation using FFs, urea, P, K, Al, S, & minerals.
@xeveriano1@strangerous10 yeah Trump has no class and no culture, that's why New York hates him and he's never been on the board of a single cultural institution there.
@rjmontgomery it's impossible to generalise "Who had it easy" … but unequivocally, economic opportunities for Boomers, broad-brush (gender & racial bias notwithstanding) were vastly favourable to what Gen-Y/Z face.
Climate change impacts will amplify generational inequities. #shockDoctrine
This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: https://t.co/aMMHId49OO
