For more than 30 years, the United States and Kazakhstan have worked together to advance nonproliferation and support peaceful nuclear research. During her recent visit to Kazakhstan’s National Nuclear Center (NNC) in Kurchatov, Ambassador Stufft highlighted the partnership’s impact – from securing and dismantling infrastructure at the former Semipalatinsk Test Site to strengthening nuclear security at the NNC.
Through collaboration between the U.S. Embassy’s Department of Energy and DTRA teams, the NNC, and the Institute of Nuclear Physics, our partnership has delivered concrete results. These achievements demonstrate what the United States and Kazakhstan can accomplish together to make nuclear materials safer, strengthen scientific capabilities, and advance global nonproliferation. For Nuclear Industry Workers Day, we celebrate the scientists and experts whose dedication continues to turn a legacy of nuclear testing into a future of peaceful research, innovation, and security – helping build a safer world for generations to come.
