Genuinely shocking that you can go to A&E - in this case sent there by a GP - but be discharged without ever seeing a doctor https://t.co/uGOSDhHCpb
“So be patient with your Lord's decree, for you are truly under Our 'watchful' Eyes. And glorify the praises of your Lord when you rise.”
— Surah At-Tur (52:48)
@H18_Z08 Inallilah wainailleyhi rajiuun...I'm so sorry for your family's loss... It's genuinely heartbreaking how something that should be preventable can end up costing someone their life💔
5 changes made in 2026 WHO malaria treatment guidelines:
1) Falciparum transmission:
Earlier ONLY ACT used for treatment.
Now, ACT plus a single LOW DOSE primaquine used. (0.5mg/kg, same for G6PD deficiency as well)
For gametocyte neutralisation in low-transmission settings.
i think one of the most overlooked sunnahs is making people feel at ease. the prophet ﷺ wasn't only remembered for what he taught, but for how safe, welcomed, and respected people felt in his company. that's a sunnah worth reviving.
Dylan Cope, 9, died of a ruptured appendix & sepsis after a nurse practitioner (parents thought she was a dr) diagnosed flu
GP had flagged possible appendicitis
Key symptoms omitted from discharge notes
Nurse lied at inquest blaming Dr
Coroner ruled neglect.
In 2002, as a surgical house officer, we took GP referrals by phone. As they were more experienced than us & had seen the patient, we accepted >99%
The surgical registrar had to see EVERY patient before discharge
This story beggars belief & is such a tragedy for this family 💔
As a Dr when teaching med students I warn them that EVERY single near miss or avoidable death I’ve seen in >30y has been where
1)failed to take a Hx
2)failed to examine patient
3)failed to localise anatomically
4)failed to come up with differential diagnosis.
This👇is 1)-4)🤬
@JanetEastham If a GP (a highly qualified doctor) says a child has appendicitis, then it is for someone who actively manages appendicitis regularly, to say they do not, and no-one else. Simple.
A correct diagnosis countermanded by someone less qualified is inexcusable.
Dylan Cope died after an A&E nurse practitioner mistook his abdominal pain for flu, having ignored his GP’s referral for suspected appendicitis. His family thought she was a doctor.
A coroner found he would have survived had a senior doctor examined him.

Doctors make mistakes. Doctors miss things. None of us are perfect. A child who has been seen by a senior doctor who sends them to the ED for further assessment should not be discharged by someone who is not a doctor. Where are the senior EM and paeds doctors condemning this?
