I interviewed Arab Barghouti in 2017 and I will never forget what he told me about his father Marwan Barghouti. He said that when his father was a teenager, he and his friends were taking a walk with his dog when they were approached by a group of Israeli soldiers. The soldiers started mocking his father, and they shot and killed his dog. His father cried for a week, and then he went outside and picked up a stone and threw it at some soldiers. For that, he was sent to prison for four years. To see the bullet penetrate the body of his beloved dog - that is what prompted Marwan Barghouti to become an activist.
