Because of “Raise the Age,” enacted in 2017, the perpetrator was arraigned by a family court judge (instead of a criminal court judge) in a “special part.” The family court judge undercut the bail request of $150,000 made by the District Attorney’s Office and set $30,000 bail.

This case is another example of how “Raise the Age” has failed us by not properly holding individuals accountable for their actions and by not treating these defendants as seriously as they should be treated.
