EU Migration Pact Update

On the 22nd of January 2026, the Minister for Justice, Jim O Callaghan, passed the new International Protection Bill through the Stage 1 of Dail Eireann.

Between the 22ndof January and the 25th of February 2026 – this Bill has passed all 5 stages of Dail Eireann and currently sits at stage 2 in the Seanad.

This is the Bill that will transpose the EU Migration Pact into Irish law.

I have been out of the loop for the last while, so I did not see how quickly this Bill had progressed, I am also not sure to what extent the passing of this Bill through the Dail has been publicised. I will be better on top of these updates going forward.
