The USIBC Privacy and Cybersecurity Working Group convened for a timely discussion on the evolving threat landscape, featuring Priya Mahajan, Verizon's Head of APAC Public Policy, who presented findings from the 2026 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR). Drawing on 19 years of data, 31,000+ incidents, and 22,000+ confirmed breaches across 145 countries, the report underscores the urgency of the moment.
Key findings:
-Attack vectors are shifting rapidly as AI tools enable faster, more sophisticated threats.
-Financial services, retail, and public administration remain critically exposed, facing a dual threat of espionage and financial crime.
-APAC has now surpassed North America and Europe as the most attacked region globally.
The group also took up MeitY's "Law to Code" initiative, which seeks to convert data privacy and cybersecurity obligations under the DPDP Act directly into executable code, enabling automated, machine-speed compliance for the AI era. A potential global model worth watching closely.

USIBC convened a webinar examining recent U.S. and Indian trade developments and their implications for companies, with a focus on tariffs, traceability, export competitiveness, and the ongoing bilateral trade negotiations.
The discussion addressed the expiration and legal uncertainty surrounding Section 122 tariffs, the broader U.S. tariff landscape, and pending Section 301 investigations, including forced labor and structural excess capacity.
Speakers noted that the forced labor 301 issue may be more manageable for India given existing legal frameworks, while the excess capacity investigation could be more sensitive because of India’s industrial policy tools, including PLI incentives. The panel also explored how these trade actions may affect the urgency and complexity of reaching a U.S.-India trade deal.
