The SpaceTREx Lab develops systems design eng. and control solutions for space, planetary and asteroid env. using small spacecraft, robots and sensor nets
See the New Frontiers of Space Exploration and Space Development Research at the University of Arizona hosted by Prof. Erika Hamden. It includes exciting work going at the SpaceTREx Laboratory! https://t.co/Fdw10Sk7ij @azengineering@UArizonaLPL@UAZScience
A Happy May the 4th (Star Wars Day)!! (3/3) For us to reach these goal we need to become an interplanetary species and work towards returning Earth to its bountiful past before human industrialization.
A Happy May the 4th (Star Wars Day)!! (2/3) In our lab we are looking at what it takes to build shelters and eventually entire bases on the Moon and other off-world destinations. We are following a Green Ethos to #preserve and #protect and leave no junk behind.
A Happy May the 4th (Star Wars Day)!! Star Wars hold a special place for many of us. As an aspirational tale, it captures our will to explore, be curious, seek out other civilizations and coexist in peace, settle in new and interesting places and battle adversity together!
Kicked off UA ASTEROIDS Spring Symposium on April 20. Our undergrads, grad students and staff presented 43 outstanding talks spanning two parallel sessions! The talks spanned interstellar object exploration to lunar robotics, Mars aerobotics and astrobiology topics. #space4all
Congratulations to Yinan Xu on successfully defending his Master's Thesis, "Robotic Assembly of Building Blocks for Construction of Lunar and Space Infrastructure." Yinan presented advanced concepts of using a lunar rail system to assemble lunar surface and subsurface structures.
Congratulations to Athip Thirupathi Raj, PhD Candidate, for being selected as a prize winner for the NASA Space Tech Catalyst Prize!! He has been inspiring and engaging a younger generation of students about the exciting future of in-space robotics! @uazresearch@azengineering
It's International Women's Day! At SpaceTREx, women team members are leading the way in a multitude of research thrusts, including terrariums and the Lunar Ark concept, inflatable rovers, and extreme environment robotics! @uazresearch@azengineering@UArizonaLPL@UAZScience
Check out our newly commissioned docking robotics facility at SpaceTREx. We are developing experiments for one spacecraft to dock to another and share resources such as fuel and electricity. #arizona@azengineering
SpaceTREx's Rebekah Cutler presented her research on flatworms for planetary exploration. Anna Dinkel presented her work on inflatable robotics for accessing Moon and Mars lava tubes. Claire Pedersen and Farah Alqaraghuli presented their work on the Lunar Ark. 2/3
We at UA SpaceTREx have been thrilled to host a segment of the Women in STEM Event 2023 as part of week-long activities at the University! Special thanks to Justin, Lissette, and others. We hosted 35 undergrad women from Mexico, including Sonora, Chihuahua, and Mexico City. 1/2
In dark and uncertain times, we made it! SpaceTREx, our laboratory, is 10 years old! It has been a made-in-Arizona journey. A special thanks to the UA community, sponsors for the support and friendships made along the way. It couldn't have been done by our 100-core students.
All the best to PI Dr. Dante Lauretta and the University of Arizona's OSIRIS-REx team!! The sample is expected touch-down in the deserts of Utah, 7:40 am PT, Sept. 24. Tune into NASA TV!!
Calling all undergraduates at UA, UPR and Pima College. If you are interested in Space and looking forward to a career in the aerospace or space science field, check out the NASA-supported Undergraduate Research and Education Program @azengineering@UArizonaLPL@UAZScience
