We are the voice of progressives in Congress. Fighting for working families over corporate interests. Advancing racial and social justice. Working for peace.
On March 11, President Trump said “In the first hour it was over.” But over 2500 hours later, the conflict is still raging. The world needs peace, but I remain concerned that such an opaque diplomatic process has been undertaken and very few details are available. Congress must exercise oversight on any accord with Iran.
I seem to recall dozens of Republicans promising us this wouldn’t cost taxpayers a cent.
Now, they’ll endlessly justify Trump stealing from you to fund another gaudy self-obsessed vanity project.
The Iran deal was signed on Sunday. The fact that the trump Administration hasn’t released the deal language and instead is having @JDVance try to spin the deal in advance tells you all you need to know.
ICE is blocking Congress from doing its job, and they keep finding new ways to do it.
Republicans have gutted all internal oversight under the second Trump Administration. Congress is the only check left, and the Trump Administration is doing everything it can to make that check meaningless.
The day @RepSaraJacobs and I showed up unannounced at Otay Mesa, they instituted a new policy making it harder for us to speak to detainees.
We need more oversight, not less, and I’m not going to stop until we have it.
Donald Trump called childcare and healthcare "little scams" that cost too much to fund, but is willing to spend $300m in taxpayer dollars for a ballroom to host his lavish parties.
When he said "I don't think about Americans' financial situation," he meant it.
Stephen Miller wants to flip a switch and erase one of your oldest rights.
It’s called habeas corpus.
Fancy words but a simple idea that the government can’t just grab you and lock you away. It has to prove to a judge why you’re behind bars. That right is 800 years old.
It’s older than America itself.
And Miller tried to kill it.
New reporting confirms it. Inside the White House, Miller pushed to suspend habeas corpus so agents could seize people, detain them, and deport them with no judge, no hearing, no chance to say “you’ve got the wrong guy.”
Even Trump’s own lawyers put in writing that this is illegal. Miller pushed anyway.
Miller screams “invasion” because the Constitution only allows this sort of thing during an invasion. But this same crowd brags every day that border crossings hit record lows. So which is it?
The right to challenge your own detention is the line between a republic and a regime. Lose it, and the government can disappear anyone.
I will fight this with everything I have.
The Constitution is not optional.
Not for Stephen Miller. Not for anyone.

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, and that’s why I’m proud to #WearOrange and stand with my colleagues against this epidemic in our country. We can start by taking steps to pass concrete legislation like @RepLucyMcBath’s GOSAFE Act to ban dangerous gas-powered assault weapons and keep our communities safe.
Our immigration courts are taking so long that people are being held hostage while they wait to see a judge or get an appeal. As people—even those with lawyers—wait in ICE detention centers, they are suffering and sometimes losing their lives.
Today, I’m wearing orange to promote gun violence awareness. This is a public health crisis, and I am committed to finding bipartisan, commonsense solutions to make our communities safe. We can make a difference!

Too many communities have been forever changed by gun violence — including Louisville.
During Gun Violence Awareness Month, we wear orange to honor the friends, loved ones, and neighbors we've lost to gun violence.
We can and must do more to prevent these tragedies.
Pursuing a more progressive tax system is a start, but it’s not the end when it comes to ensuring the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share.
We need to be taxing wealth.
Only Congress can declare war. Invading Iran’s Kharg Island would be brazenly unconstitutional.
American troops would die during the invasion. And then every day Iran would try to kill more American troops on Kharg Island.
Senate must pass the House’s War Powers Resolution.
After all this talk about a supposed deal, Trump is threatening to hit Iran “very hard" and take control of their oil.
This is exactly why the House passed a bipartisan resolution to stop this illegal war. ENOUGH.
Americans marched and bled and died for the right to form a union.
This week the House passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act — one step towards making that right real for all workers.
