After retiring from professional football, Jonathan Mensah has embarked on a new path as a sports photographer, preparing to capture memorable moments at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Ghanaian international defender, who featured in two World Cups, is shifting his focus from playing on the pitch to documenting the game through his lens. His aim is to capture the emotion, intensity, and defining moments of football, beginning with the global spectacle in 2026.
Mensah has already started building his photography portfolio, covering international friendlies such as the pre-World Cup match between Ecuador and Guatemala. His interest in photography developed gradually during his playing career, particularly during his time with Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew.
Now based in the United States, he runs his own brand, JM Photography, where he is steadily gaining recognition for his storytelling approach to sports imagery.
Before this transition, Mensah enjoyed a distinguished football career that began with Ashanti Gold in Ghana. He later played for Free State Stars in South Africa and moved to Europe with Udinese, gaining further experience through loan spells, including one at Granada. He also spent time in France with Evian Thonon Gaillard and in Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala.
His most successful period came in the United States with Columbus Crew, where he became a key defensive leader and won the MLS Cup.
On the international stage, Mensah rose to prominence after helping Ghana win the 2009 African Youth Championship and the FIFA U-20 World Cup. He went on to represent the senior national team at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups and played a vital role in several Africa Cup of Nations campaigns, even captaining the team during World Cup qualifiers.
Now retired, Mensah remains closely connected to football through his photography, using his experience to tell compelling visual stories of the sport. His journey reflects a growing trend of former athletes pursuing creative roles within the game, bringing fresh perspectives beyond their playing careers.
From commanding the defense to capturing decisive moments behind the camera, Jonathan Mensah continues his football journey, just from a new angle.

Even on her birthday, my wife doesn't post herself on social media.
Not even on her WhatsApp status.
Her siblings and some of mine would call her to wish her well and that's it.
She doesn't even post our kids online even on their birthday.
What's she's always excited to share are the results of our children from school.
And she does that in her family WhatsApp group.
She stopped posting anything about herself online many years ago.
And it was solely her decision.
I am enough for her.
End.
Godswill is still fighting for his life in the hospital, your financial support can help him get a kidney transplant.. please help save the life of a dad and a husband ππ½
