I don’t know if I’ll ever be popular, and honestly, I don't need to be. I create art because I love doing it.
But just in case I build a fanbase somewhere down the line, I’ll start dropping hints about myself right now.
Hint #1: I speak both Japanese and English languages. 🇯🇵🇬🇧
Day 5.
Starting to gather tracks for my first covers. No rush, but preparing now saves a headache later!
I’m thinking the first one will be either "Lagtrain" (ラグトレイン) or "Ikanaide" (いかないで). But who knows, I might find something else along the way.
Day 4.
Watched some real side-by-side tests between the ATR2100x, Samson Q2U, and Shure SM58. Turns out that in the mid-range gear, every extra dollar actually gives you a noticeable jump in sound quality. But not in the video recording. Yeah, it's a pun.
As for comparing it to the Shure SM58... honestly, unless you A/B test them in the exact same second, you'll barely notice a difference in a finished song even with absolute pitch, i think? Yeah, microphones aren’t people either. (surprisingly).
Looks like real mixing practice will wait until I get my mic. But it gave me huge self-confidence!
If a vocals sound good with processing, they probably sound fine even without it, i think? At least now I know I won't have to spend a whole year learning mixing from scratch!
Good evening.
Day 3.
Wanted to practice vocal mixing in FL Studio before I get my mic... Thought it was a good idea... Thinking is not my best quality, though.
I bought FL Studio, cause... I've used it before (and used to it before). Yeah, it's a pun.
Vocaloids don't really need standard vocal mixing. They aren't human (surprisingly): zero dynamic range, no sharp attacks, no room acoustics, perfect pitch. Most plugins (like heavy compressors) are just useless for them.
Only EQ, reverb, and saturation actually do something.
Day 2. My computer is temporarily out of commission. And I measured my full vocal range once again....
It came out to 6 octaves and a fifth.
I’ve ended up better than I was 3 months ago 😭
And here I was hoping to regress 🥺
It’s not even a recording at that point, it's straight-up noise.
So, my future mic will be the ATR2100x-USB. Please don't laugh! I come from a poor family, so this is a maximum what I can afford. If any of you have been through a similar experience, I’d love to hear how it went!
This account is going to be like my diary. While I don't have the gear to record yet, I plan to post my entire journey right here. My voice is pretty interesting, but recording vocals on a phone’s built-in mic is just no-no. It just sounds awful...
Good evening. I am a newbie, Shimiru the Utaite (歌い手の"しみる").
「歌い手の"しみる"」 and "I am Shimiru the Utaite" feel kinda similar... To be honest, I guess I just wanted to stand out a bit...
