The sword fight in The Deluge (1974) is considered one of the most realistic sword duels in film history.
Both lead actors underwent months of rigorous swordsmanship training. The fight scenes were so intense that they reportedly came dangerously close to losing their lives while using real swords and getting too deeply immersed in their roles.
Do you agree that this is the greatest sword fight in cinema history?
Most people send a résumé when applying for a job.
David “Zeb” Cook sent TSR a dungeon. 😳
When I spoke with Zeb about I1: Dwellers of the Forbidden City (1981), he told me it was essentially his job application.
It began as roughly 13 typewritten pages from his home campaign, inspired by Robert E. Howard’s Red Nails. That seed grew into the official AD&D tournament at Origins 1980, and then a sprawling lost-city sandbox in Greyhawk’s Hepmonaland.
Warring factions. Snake cults. Treacherous alliances. And the debut of the yuan-ti, tasloi, mongrelmen, and aboleth.
Here’s the kicker… the aboleth wasn’t even in the original submission. Zeb invented it because the tournament needed a monster NO ONE had seen before.
An Erol Otus cover. Monsters still haunting D&D 45 years later. And a career that would help shape AD&D 2nd Edition.
Not bad for a job application. ⚔️❤️
