Why do MBBS interns in Punjab get half stipend while having to pay more than double the tuition fees as compared to their counterparts in Delhi and Central Medical Institutes? Interns in medical colleges are worse than underpaid labourers.

Minimum wage of a labour = 517.14/ day
Minimum wage of an intern = 500/ day

In what could be lower than the minimum wage fixed by the Labour Dept — Rs 517. 14 for a day — the MBBS interns in Punjab are paid only Rs 500 per day for working long hours and performing emergency duties. Monthly stipend to interns in Punjab is lowest among the northern states.

Haryana gov increased stipend to 24,300 from 17000 , 43% increment !
