What you have to realise about yesterday and what infuriates, is that the Police were apparently in no danger. They apparently had no provocation to use violence the way they did. The videos we're seeing show frenzied attacks on unarmed protestors who appeared to pose no threat.
We've seen this before. They appeared to be sent to treat the protestors a lesson. To actively and brutally hurt people so they wouldn't protest.
The police force in India has zero accountability to its people: they're a feudal force run by the state to impose its will, a remnant of colonialism.
There's much to be changed in the way our political-bureaucratic nexus works without accountability. Unless that changes to bring in accountability, nothing will change.
There were the Mandal Commission protests, 2013, there was CAA-NRC, there is this. There will be more.
Every generation discovers the apathy and brutality of the state afresh. The difference is that increasingly more will have the ability to escape this mess.
In 2017, I think, I spoke with Kaspar Korjus of Estonia (he was the head of their eresidency program) while we had lunch, just before both of us spoke at the Harvard Kennedy School, and he said two things that over lunch that stuck in my head:
1. that we elect people who are good at getting elected not governing. He suggested that algorithms should choose who governs but I don't agree with that idea. Remember that this was in 2017.
2. That countries should be like service providers and we should allow people to choose which country they want to live in, which serves them better. Our world doesn't work like that.
Still something to think about. As long as emigration exists, and people are able to emigrate, some people who have the skills and/or the money will choose better pastures.
For the rest: they'll either be miserable or living the stockholm syndrome life. Or they might just be happy/co-opted/with enough money to navigate the rent-seeking system run by people who either won the IAS lottery or are good at getting elected.
@SwiggyCares I raised a complaint 3 days ago about being overcharged on email (Order ID: 203454958513848). Restaurant bill = โน508, but I was charged โน545. No response, no refund, no accountability. Is this how you treat your customers? @nch1915@jagograhakjago
@HDFC_Bank Itโs disappointing to see no action on my card upgrade request even after multiple emails (Ref: 1052115600). Issued a card I never consented to, and now complete silence. Is this the service loyal customers can expect? @HDFCBank_Cares
@KESCoHQ@UPPCLLKO Power cut in Indira Nagar (substation: Dayanand Vihar) since past 2hrs. Whatโs the ETA for electricity resumption and regular uninterrupted supply? Please inform

@ZeptoNow I plan to file a complaint with the CCPA for misleading advertising and unfair trade practices. @zeptocares advertised delivery time of 9 minutes is significantly different from the actual delivery time, which is consistently around 30 minutes.
Despite this, your estimated time of arrival (ETA) continues to show as 5-7 minutes. This inconsistency is misleading and unfair to customers. @ZeptoNow
