$23,517 pledged by 449 backers in 28 days! We didn't hit our $50k goal, but we definitely are walking away with our heads held high! Thank you to everyone that pledged your support! @Ariaulti@SAVAGEultimate@USAUltimate
We've got less than 30 minutes left in our @kickstarter campaign. We've been able to raise $23,487 in 28 days from 448 backers! It's not enough for our campaign to be funded but Oh My! What a ride. Last chance to say you put your money where your mouth is! https://t.co/6UzY7oemKr
We've got 5 hours to go! Can we get to 500 pledges and $25,000? I think we can. Remember it's an all or nothing campaign, so if we don't hit $50k no money is drafted from your account! https://t.co/6UzY7oemKr
@uulultimate I don't think the idea is dead, or that this specific league format is no good!! Lukewarm reception was prob due to awkward timing with other conversations that were already happening in the community, and a lack of understanding on our part of how the league would function.
@uulultimate I think if the AUDL owners had sat still while this campaign was running, it would be a different story, but their model is slightly more proven and people see the potential to shift something existing instead of creating something new. I'm not holding my breath for that though!
@uulultimate So year 1 would be funded by the Kickstarter...for year 2 I personally don't see how people coming to games can hope to fund the cost of flying all the teams around/all the gear/health insurance and everything - the rest of the money would come from these sponsors/investors?
@uulultimate Totally get that. But I think people want to know that there are next steps in place, and what the bigger picture is. That's the sense I'm getting from those I talk to. Super respect the way you're engaging around this here, thanks! :)
@uulultimate Thanks for the answers! So there are investors to own the league? Or are you still hoping to attract investors? I got super lucky finding a couple ultimate peeps who were interested in helping me start the gym, but that's a much smaller-scale project...
@uulultimate So it will have owners in the same way the AUDL does? People with lotsa money putting up money for the day-to-day expenses of pro athletes?
@uulultimate I've heard people calling for more information, and I think that's legit! The FAQ page in the Kickstarter is blank, and there is at least one unanswered question in the comments asking for more clarification. People want to know you've thought this through!
@uulultimate Cool! :-) How much does this league seek to compete with the AUDL directly? It's set up very similarly, but the way you talk about it makes it feel more like another way to play ultimate with maybe a little better visibility. Is it a community-funded league or a pro league?
@renfitness The idea was to make sure the UUL was what the community wanted. And are approaching 50% funded. Which is amazing. So a little more time & support could have cleared us!
@renfitness I’m all for the @theAUDL pushing #genderequity and applaud the team owners for stepping up. I am disappointed that nothing has been said from the top. I’m sure it’s hard to get all 24 owners to agree to things. Hopefully this campaign proves that there is a market for mixed!
@renfitness For sure! Wish conversations like these happened earlier in the campaign. Been trying to create the #discussion so more questions can be answered.
@renfitness And if we cannot get 500 tickets sold per game it means that the product isn't what the Ultimate community wants to see. Which is why we're doing the "crowdfunding". It is showing us if the way we designed this is what people would want to come out to.
@renfitness Funding for year 2 will come from ticket sales, merchandise, sponsors, and investors. Plan for year 1 is to get 500 tickets sold to each game = $67,500 in ticket sales. That funds year 2 with the 8 teams. And if we can hit those numbers, we will be able to attract big sponsors.
