our final #ONHumanLearn conversation is tomorrow, & this reflection by #OLDFF fellow @JaberLindsey on how the project conversations led her to bell hooks' work is really powerful.

thinking out loud w/@otheragent: online sync classes don't work like f2f BECAUSE sync functions as a broadcast medium, one to many.
but presence & community online stem from many-to-many comms. the web is BUILT to do this asynchronously.
pandemic learning as mismatch, big sigh
excited to see the @UWinOpenLearn#OLDFF fellows starting to share reflections from our weekly province-wide #ONHumanLearn conversations.
first up, my colleague @catherinevanner, on becoming comfortable with recording classes: https://t.co/swKo5ctWpx

Hey Twitter friends @UWindsor is looking for an awesome communicator to help with all the important initiatives that we're working on with our campus community, especially around EDI, decolonisation, sustainability & engagement.

just met our fabulous group of @UWinOpenLearn#OLDFF fellows for the #ONHumanLearn project.
folks from all around campus in conversation with province-wide collaborators through Oct/Nov, co-designing strategies for humanizing online learning.
can't WAIT. will be sharing. :)
it's election day in Canada.
on election days, i used to tweet cute things like 'vote for the society you want.'
this year, i just hope ppl vote FOR society, not for hyper-individualist extremes & meltdowns.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

key signals here:
"data-driven"
"break down data silos across the institution"
"deliver unmatched personalized experiences across the full learner lifecycle"
"owned by Veritas Capital, a private equity firm"
this is about buying/directing student data, folks.
#highereducation
i wrote this, folks. because hybrid learning shouldn't *have* to be Ontario boards' education strategy.
the province calls it a 'choice.' that's privatization talk. it isn’t a choice so much as an abdication of responsibility.
"When I think of creativity, I think of a novel approach to a given idea, a new perspective for that individual...am I wrong about that being creativity?"
@davecormier, on designing for engagement using ill-structured (open-ended-ish) problems.

this week of all weeks, we cannot claim we do not know that the deployment of education in the service of power, racism, & dominance does harm.

what's currently being pitched as 'hybrid' learning in #OntEd K-12 isn't really a learning model at ALL.
it's neither good classroom pedagogy NOR good digital pedagogy practice. it's the worst of both.
“Right now we are taking the scarcest, most valuable resource we have — our attention — and we’re using it to try to repair the horribly broken information ecosystem,” Mr Caulfield said. “We’re throwing good money after bad.”
SO happy to see SIFT getting press. try it. teach it.

Today we learned about the structure of a satellite and what keeps a satellite in space with a centripetal force demonstration. Wait until the end to see what I surprised my students with! #teacher#virtual@gecdsbpro @HPSVP @getyourteachon@SpaceCampAlumni
