Corruption on this scale destroys economies, yet the blame is shifted onto the poorest and most vulnerable instead of those looting the state. That is when education should intervene.

African politicians know how to keep poor and uneducated people distracted from the real issue. They are told that illegal immigrants are the reason they are unemployed and poor, while the political elite loot public resources with impunity.

Tragically, there is no shortage of poor and uneducated people willing to defend the politicians responsible for their misery while attacking people just like themselves, whose only “crime” is that they come from another country.

They aren’t hiding from the security cameras; in fact, they are recording the entire encounter themselves under the self-proclaimed banner of "Defenders of the People."

Behind the counter, the employees are frozen in sheer terror.

Yet, there are no flashing blue lights, no handcuffs, and a baffling silence from the mainstream media.

​This chilling scene mirrors the exact playbook used in Zimbabwe just a year before the widespread farm invasions began.

It started with armed factions marching into private enterprises, documenting their intrusion, and gauging the reaction of law enforcement.

When they met zero resistance, they returned to seize the properties permanently.

​This isn't a covert operation—it's an advertisement.

​By brazenly uploading the footage to TikTok, this group is flaunting their lawlessness. The realization that a masked, armed militia can openly intimidate a legitimate business, broadcast it to the world, and walk away completely unscathed is a dark omen for the nation's future.

​The reality of this threat is no longer up for debate; the footage exists.

The only remaining uncertainty is which business will be targeted next.

Today I had a very constructive meeting with former President Jacob Zuma in Durban. We discussed issues such as the value of mother tongue education, the promotion of mutual recognition and respect between cultural communities, agricultural development in traditional communities, and Section 235 of the South African Constitution. More meetings will follow.

As a civil society organisation @afriforum remains outside of party politics. We are working for the next generation rather than the next election. In securing a better future for the next generation, we are committed to engaging with all stakeholders in South Africa, even though we may differ on certain issues. We are committed to helping find solutions to the challenges the country and all its people face.
