The neck guard debate isn't the first time protective equipment has been disputed in hockey. Helmets for example, weren't required in the NHL until 1979.#Week9
Adam Johnson's tragedy is not the first time a player has died from a skate to the neck. In 2022, Connecticut teen, Teddy Balkind passed away in similar circumstances. These horrific accidents are why the PWHL is considering a neck guard policy.
