The market has been relatively quiet over the past 7 days, with the broader Nigerian market up just 0.1%.

But underneath that calm, there’s plenty to watch.

Some interesting moves from the latest Simply Wall St update:

• FCMB: +13.1% in 7 days
• First HoldCo: +12.2%
• GTCO: -1.5%
• NAHCO: -9.7%
• Custodian: -9.9%
• Transcorp: -7.1%

More importantly, companies are beginning to release their Q2 2026 results.

For example:

📌 Conoil EPS: ₦1.81 vs ₦0.88
📌 MTN Nigeria EPS: ₦16.80 vs ₦13.42
📌 BUA Foods EPS: ₦8.32 vs ₦7.32
📌 Nestlé Nigeria EPS: ₦32.52 vs ₦25.73

If I had to start investing again with just ₦10,000… this is exactly how I would approach it. 📈

The first thing I would NOT do is search for a “magic stock” that will double my money overnight.

Because investing is not a shortcut to instant wealth.

It is a journey of learning, discipline, patience, and making smarter decisions with your money.

Here’s what I would do:

✅ 1. I would invest in knowledge first.

Before putting my money into any stock, ETF, or investment, I would learn how the market works.

Because losing money due to ignorance can be more expensive than starting small.

✅ 2. I would start small, but build the habit.

₦10,000 may not look like a fortune today, but every successful investor started somewhere.

The goal is not just the amount.

The goal is becoming someone who understands how to make money work.

Here's what surviving (and profiting from) market storms actually requires:
1. Cash flow discipline over excitement
If you can't explain — in one sentence — why you own a stock, you don't own an investment. You own a bet. Dangote Cement, Zenith Bank, GTCO — the names that hold up in downturns are the ones with earnings that justify the price, not just the hype.
2. Volatility is a toll, not a warning sign
Zenith Bank fell over 20% during the 2020 crash. Investors who understood the fundamentals hadn't changed — only the price had — held on. Those who panic-sold locked in a loss on a company that recovered and grew.
3. Diversification means uncorrelated exposure, not just more tickers
Owning five bank stocks isn't diversification — it's concentration with extra steps. Real diversification spreads risk across sectors, market caps, and even geographies (NGX + NYSE/NASDAQ).
The takeaway: Storms are inevitable. Losses from panic are optional.

If you leave home every morning to go to work while your wife stays home to care for the children and manage the household, both of you are working.

The difference is that one job comes with a salary, while the other often doesn't.

Childcare, cooking, cleaning, planning, school runs, emotional support, keeping the home functioning and being available when the children need help — these are real responsibilities.

And they have economic value.

Imagine your wife suddenly couldn't do any of it.

You would still need to work, but who would care for the children?

Who would cook?

Who would clean?

Who would handle the daily responsibilities of the home?

You would likely have to pay someone to provide some of those services.

That's why a husband shouldn't look at his income and think:

“I am the one making the money.”

A healthier way to see it is:

“We are building this household together, and we contribute in different ways.”

One person may bring in the money.

The other may create the time, stability and support that makes earning that money possible.

That doesn't mean every couple must combine finances or spend money the same way.

It means both contributions deserve respect.

Marriage shouldn't be a competition over who works harder.

It should be a partnership where both people understand the value of what the other person contributes.

Income has a price tag.
Caregiving has value too — even when there is no payslip.

Respect the contribution.

Build together.

And never make your spouse feel worthless simply because their work doesn't come with a salary.
