Many years ago, When I was single and living abroad, I matched with this girl on Facebook. We were chatting one day when my sister spoke in the background.
She immediately asked, “Who is that”?
I said, “My sister”.
Her response was “Why are you sharing a one-bedroom flat with your sister? You two are supposed to live separately. Even if you must stay together, it should be a three- or four-bedroom apartment!”

I just smiled and changed the topic.
In my head I was screaming, this one thinks life abroad is some soft life compared to Nigeria.

She has no idea that you can be earning the equivalent of N10 million a month…
and still watch N4 million vanish on rent alone, N1 million on utility bills, N200k on internet, another N1 million on municipality taxes, and the rest of your big money disappear into transport, food, and just surviving. That’s why it’s wise to stay in a shared apartment and it’s even better when you are with family.

Abroad is not heaven. It’s just a more expensive version of the same struggle, only with colder weather and higher expectations.
