Umm, I’ve explained this before several times, but I still think it’s being misunderstood.
There was a time—quite a while ago—when videos involving animals, or actions involving certain animal-related organizations, became major news topics.
Around that time, I was interviewed by the media in the Oceania region—either Australia or New Zealand, I don’t quite remember which—regarding video games in general. It was a broad interview with about 15 different questions, and one of them went something like this:
“Several animal characters appear in TEKKEN. In light of the recent controversies in the news, have you ever received any protests regarding animals fighting in the game?”
I responded by saying, “We haven’t actually received any protests so far, but I suppose one day we might get complaints about fighting with kangaroos or having kangaroos fight.” It was a purely hypothetical statement—I only mentioned the possibility that it might happen. And the reason I specifically used kangaroos as an example was simply because, as I mentioned earlier, the interview was conducted in Oceania, so it made contextual sense to bring up Roger.
Also, to be precise, I added a related anecdote in that interview. I said:
“Oh wait—there actually was one complaint, now that I think about it. It was about the panda. When we first introduced Panda in the arcade version of TEKKEN 3, the Chinese Embassy in Japan contacted us. I braced myself, thinking they might be upset about us including a panda in the game. But the first thing they said was: ‘A panda’s tail is not black!’ That was the issue. And even though we received that correction during the arcade release, I completely forgot about it when porting the game to PlayStation. So the panda’s tail in TEKKEN remained black for quite a while, and only much later did we change it to white.”
Then, a few years after that interview was published, this idea started circulating that Roger was removed from the game due to protests from some organization. But I never said we had actually received a protest, and I certainly never said we couldn’t include Roger because of that.
It’s possible that the tone of my comments got twisted a bit during translation into English—maybe it came across sarcastically, like “If someone complains, I guess we can’t include him anymore”—but even so, I never made any definitive or conclusive statement about it.
@LyinFigure@AdoreCelebsUK@lilyallen I guess that’s just the natural order of things when someone has no talent and spends the best part of their day posting images of Z-listers
