Il 4 ottobre, giorno dedicato a San Francesco, patrono d’Italia, è un’occasione per riflettere
sulla distanza tra quel messaggio e le scelte del nostro tempo.

Oggi conosciamo gli animali molto più di allora. Abbiamo strumenti per prevenire i conflitti e
sostenere chi condivide il territorio con la fauna selvatica. Il lavoro di tante persone dimostra
che costruire la convivenza è possibile.

Eppure, mentre queste possibilità crescono, la politica arretra sulle tutele. Il declassamento
del lupo da specie “rigorosamente protetta” a “protetta”, recepito anche in Italia, va per noi
nella direzione opposta a quella che dovremmo percorrere.

Continueremo a difendere gli animali e a contrastare le scelte di governo che li rendono più
vulnerabili.

Francesco lo chiamava fratello. Noi abbiamo la responsabilità di proteggerlo.
