For millions of displaced people, the hardest question is often what comes next.
A job. A service. A school.
A chance to rebuild.
That is why #WorldRefugeeDay must also be about solutions - for displaced people and the communities hosting them.
They are not only the future, they are the Now! Energizing morning with young Indonesians — from startup founders, journalists, government officer to content creators — discussing #AI, jobs, inequality, and #sustainability, and the future they want for Indonesia.
With #youth making up 25% of the population, they are central to Indonesia’s #development ambitions and building an economy and society that works for people and for nature. Heartening to exchange on approaches that involves no trade-offs if done right!
It has been such a pleasure to be back in the Philippines, to engage with senior govt leaders, private sector, civil society, and our partners.
A few personal reflections as I look back at our @UNDP history of partnership in this country, and then look forward...
Thank you to a country and people that invited us in over 60 years ago - we continue to learn and grow with you.
Governance is the operating system of development.
In services people can access, institutions they can trust, and systems that deliver.
This is how progress lasts.
The world @UNDP works in has changed.
More crises.
More shocks.
Less predictable financing.
Today, at the @UNDP Executive Board, I highlighted 5 priorities to continue delivering at scale.

A virus carries no passport and can’t be deterred by weapons. Yet we spend trillions on arms while underfunding the health systems that protect us all.
Health security IS security.
The world needs better global leadership.
Human rights should be guaranteed for everyone, but for many, they don’t come easy.
For millions of people living through poverty, violence or disasters, it's a hard-won achievement that requires extraordinary efforts and courage.

“Today and every day, the United Nations is proud to work with African countries to build the peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future all Africans – and our world – deserve.”
@antonioguterres on Monday’s #AfricaDay.
If nature breaks down, so do we.
@UNDP is committed to changing how the world values nature - from the ground up.
Let's choose a smarter path.
My statement on #BiodiversityDay 👇
Waste seems never-ending until Ciamis got a hold of it!
This is the story of a partnership - a city (Ciamis) government and community in #Indonesia, a private foundation @CocaCola, and a global development agency @UNDP.
Together, we are turning waste into a productive resource with leadership commitment, innovations and sheer persistence.
And the efforts paid off with Ciamis recognized as the cleanest city in ASEAN in 2025🏆!
Ciamis did not stop there. They built a Waste Bank network that continues to reduce and convert waste, creating income for more residents.
Thx to @CocaCola for joining this effort w @UNDPIndonesia, supporting a #CircularEconomy that can be taken to other cities in Indonesia and beyond!

Denmark’s partnership helps ensure @UNDP delivers where needs are highest.
Delighted to meet State Secretary for Development Policy, Elsebeth Krone.
On the agenda: building crisis resilience, strengthening trusted institutions, creating jobs, inclusive green growth & UN reform.
Arrived in Stockholm 🇸🇪 🇺🇳
At a time of rising instability, long‑standing partnerships that deliver results matter more than ever.
I’m here to build on our shared commitment to development - done early and at scale - to reduce risk, strengthen institutions and build stability.
A microbusiness trap? When you are in it, you know it!
90% of micro-enterprises are trapped by systemic barriers, unable to meet higher regulatory requirements and access more finance.
Hence, they remain in survival mode. To address this, @UNDP we are expanding access to finance and insurance tools, green and new tech skills, and linking micro-enteprises into value chains of larger market players.
We need to do much more of this and thx to our financing partners who join us, including in volatile market settings!

Enjoyed my grilling by young leaders in Sweden today!
They were focused, informed and clear about the future they want to build.
The challenge is not a lack of ideas. It’s creating systems that deliver!
Development does not wait for stability - it creates stability.
🌿Walking in #BenjakittiPark, Bangkok even in the midst of urban Asia, one sees the value of nature's assets all around.
Putting a true cost on these assets and then so much more in our countries - forests, wetlands, peats, mangroves - this is intergenerational wealth to be protected, used wisely and passed down!
@UNDPasiapac working with national legislation, local action and our partners to ensure nature-based assets are valued and accounted for in inclusive economic growth.
Much more to come with @UNDP on this through the year, so watch this space!

As development aid falls, we need smarter, coordinated partnerships.
Ones that unlock new potential.
This means building the architecture to connect capital to where it is most needed.
@UNDP is here to help make that possible.
My message at @FinanceInCommon / #G7 in Paris.
A city only works for everyone when it works for women.
Congratulations to Bangkok City, Governor @chadchart_trip and Deputy Governor Tavida on achieving the Gender Equality Seal – Gold.
The Seal is a @UNDP standard for building equality into decisions, budgets & services.
@alexanderdecroo@chadchart_trip@UNDP The first city in the region to do so, and it was a privilege for @UNDPasiapac to support and accompany this journey of learning, energy and results. Hope to see many more city govts and businesses to follow and take up the #GenderSeal soon!
Mid-East conflict’s shockwaves are travelling faster than expected across Asia‑Pacific.
As I said to @damiencave@nytimes the rapid retreat on economic gains are most keenly felt by the millions being pushed back into poverty in the Asia Pacific region...and this is happening now!
See @nytimesworld article: https://t.co/q9dLc4xCJ7
Spoke today with @ChannelNewsAsia’s Yasmin Jonkers on the Middle East conflict’s impact across 36 Asia-Pacific countries.
I was asked about @UNDP focus. From households & small businesses to informal workers and farmers, food, fuel, fertilizer shortages hit the most vulnerable first. Supporting policies and programmes that reach them - that's our priority.
