@artipatelxo they can be harmful in only putting forward biased posts based on what you interact with. If you only interact with one type of content, it will only push that forward, creating a tunnel vision
@artipatelxo I completely agree, I think most companies were only concerned about maximizing profits rather than children's well-being, and even today some still think like this
@kayla_iamello it brings awareness to issues most people don't even know existed, a lot of the time we don't realize little things that are a result from this
@aaron_pedvis absolutely, most of the time when scrolling on apps like instagram or tiktok, we lose track of time and end up staying up late ignoring tasks like homework or sleep
@GuaianiSteven user experience is definitely a big part of social media. having a positive user experience from an app that is easy to use can also be beneficial when using social media in the classroom
@jkatsoulis3 agreed, we all have a right to privacy, so monitoring usage during non-school hours would be a violation of this. Schools have a right to monitor schoolwork activities to make sure no harm is being done to others
@vane_sincovich so true, we all learn at different paces and in different ways, but I still think global collaboration provides students with exposure to different concepts
@alexia_wight exactly, even shyer people will feel more comfortable participating as they can reflect on their thoughts and post/reply to what they feel comfortable
#lesson12 Children should know how to properly express their opinions in a respectful way. They should also learn how to accept criticism and be able to take it and change from it. They should also learn to accept othersโ opinions, even if they differ from their own.
I also believe original portrayals of race in movies like Mulan or Aladdin were extremely inaccurate and borderline offensive. Nowadays, they have a much more respectful approach to showcasing other cultures, like in Moana and Coco.
Disney realized people did not care for a woman always being saved by a man and no longer cared about always setting a main character up with a love interest after every film.
#lesson11 Disney has always had the princess saved by a prince formula until only a few years ago. After Frozen came out in 2013, they changed this formula, where Anna was not saved by a man, but by her sister. This was the start of change from this formula.
@BrianaPanaccio1 even in dumbo! although they changed the movie to remove the racist scenes, there are still underlying themes within the movie hinting to the original scenes. Disney used to portray their villains as people deemed undesirable or scary
@LukasEDUC I dont think there is an age cut-off with parental supervision, once the child begins to be independent the parents should allow them more digital freedom
@RayYousseef absolutely, conflict resolution is a skill we all need, as well as teaching children that it's ok to have boundaries regarding heated situations
