I have seen many women repeat the argument you have made, Ramsey. But what you and they are failing to understand is that Justice Philippa Phillips’s ruling could ultimately have a far greater negative impact on women, because women are still more likely to stay at home, interrupt their careers to raise children, or earn less than their husbands.
If you accept the principle that the spouse who contributed the most money towards acquiring a property should automatically receive the lion’s share upon divorce, you risk undoing decades of progress in matrimonial law.
That progress recognised that marriage is an economic partnership and that contributions are not limited to cash. Raising children, managing the home, caring for the family and enabling the other spouse to build a career and accumulate wealth are also real and valuable contributions.
This is not an argument that every marriage must end in an automatic 50-50 division. It is an argument that courts must assess the marriage as a whole rather than reducing it to bank statements and purchase receipts.
Many women are celebrating because the ruling benefited a woman in this particular case. But they are overlooking the wider principle it may reinforce. In most marriages, women are more likely to occupy the financially weaker position held by the husband in this case. What looks like a victory for one woman today could become the legal reasoning used to dispossess many women tomorrow.
I therefore see this as a potentially dark day for women, not men. A judgment should not be assessed merely by the sex of the person who won, but by the principle it establishes and who is most likely to suffer when that principle is applied in future cases.
I understand that there are many lawyers who have offered their services for free to challenge this ruling in the Supreme Court.
3/3 Not because I loved him any less, but because life just happened that way. So over the last couple of years, I've been intentional about changing that.

I received a call from MadziBaba VeShanduko. He is facing serious financial difficulties and is struggling to pay his children’s school fees and provide for their basic upkeep.
His home was burnt down, and he spent eight months in prison for a political crime he did not commit before later being acquitted by the courts.
We have set up a GoFundMe campaign to help him rebuild his life and support his family during this difficult period.
Please donate whatever you can and help spread the word.
RETWEET.

@TIME There’s no such thing as giving your kids access to the internet. You’re giving the internet access to your kids. Innocence is precious. Protect it at all costs.
Great initiative by #GreatmanMusic. RETWEET and help him reach as many people as possible!
You know what, my people? A retweet costs you nothing. And when you see somebody who is disabled, like Great Man, pushing this initiative, it should shame us who are able-bodied that we are not able to assist those who are disabled.
The least we can do is to RETWEET so that those who have the heart to help can actually support this cause.
So I ask you again, please RETWEET this initiative that Great Man, who is disabled, has started to assist people like him who are disabled.
It costs you nothing at all as a Zimbabwean or an African to simply RETWEET, or as any other nationality.
Lesbians don’t want men, but one must act like a man in their relationship. Gay men don’t want women, but one must act like a woman in the relationship. If you are able to make it make sense, please share your logic.

I would like to thank the REAL churches and the individual clerics who gave me the strength to carry on with my work while I was still living in Zimbabwe.
I want to single out the Catholic and Anglican churches, as well as my own church, the United Methodist. In the middle of persecution, their priests reached out to me and invited me into the church for private prayers.
You stood with me in my darkest hours, offering me sanctuary, time to reflect, and the spiritual courage to carry on.
For that, I am forever grateful to these priests. My prayer is that you continue to do the same for others, giving them the strength and hope you gave me.
True faith is proven not in sermons, but in standing with the persecuted when the world turns against them. Thank you🙏🏿🙏🏿
