Ex-computer scientist who worked on applied NLP, before it was cool, at the RALI Computational Linguistics Lab. Now just a tech vagabond - Life is data
No More GIL!
the Python team has officially accepted the proposal.
Congrats @colesbury on his multi-year brilliant effort to remove the GIL, and a heartfelt thanks to the Python Steering Council and Core team for a thoughtful plan to make this a reality.

I'm as enthusiastic about the future of AI as (almost) anyone, but I would estimate I've created 1000X more value from careful manual analysis of a few high quality data sets than I have from all the fancy ML models I've trained combined.
I'm excited about this... Open and decentralized, that's how the web is supposed to be.

New blog post for a new week! 🗒️
Bear with me as I natter about one of my favourite open/decentralised comms projects at the moment, @matrixdotorg, while giving you some technical insight on how it works and how to use it in your project.

#Python world, here's the slides from my #PyCon2018 talk, "Dataclasses: The code generator to end all code generators".
Nice looking but zipped-up read-the-docs style HTML: https://t.co/krkm4l91l0

@BecomingDataSci Sometimes I like using ggplot Wich is a port of the R plotting library of the same name. Maybe pymongo if you're going to play with MongoDB. I'm not sure if someone already mentioned Jupyter.
very cool work on text attribute transfer, e.g. sentiment (positive->negative), genre (humorous->romantic), etc... like pix2pix for text! https://t.co/09uGTJnVlY + code at https://t.co/6IPIHWkgl2
There are still some spots left for anyone interested inworking with open govt data for a weekend.

#Python tip: In Python 3.7, PEP 479 stops being tolerant. If your code has a next() that raises an uncaught StopIteration inside a generator, now is the time to fix it. Just catch the StopIteration and execute a return-statement from the generator.

Just read through the @distillpub interpretability blog post from @ch402 and others. Stunning (and fun!) visualizations, but I wonder: what did these visualizations actually teach us about these networks? What do we know now that we didn't know before? https://t.co/JICAm49Shn
