Olivia Rodrigo explicando por que escolheu um balanço para a capa do álbum “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love”:
“Queria que o álbum fosse sobre alegria, e não existe nada mais alegre do que balançar de cabeça pra baixo num balanço sentindo que está apaixonada.”
“Na contracapa estou deitada na grama. Queria mostrar tipo: você estava no balanço e talvez caiu, e agora está sentada na grama. Essa é a dualidade de tudo.”
The whole album basically says "don't get dependent and addicted on your romantic relationships cause your love life is not your whole mental health and it can't be, not matter if you want to. It won't cure your depression, you will just think it might"
the metaphor of purple... like doesn't matter how much he loves her (red) her sadness (blue) will always stain her relationships and turn her purple (sour/guts). no relationship will make her feel better bc no matter how red they are, blue + red always = purple... ok godlivia
Olivia reflects back on her lyric “They all say it gets better, but what if I don’t” from ‘teenage dream’ on Dazed!
“Oh my God, things have got so much better. But I remember the fear that they wouldn’t. I was really young when SOUR came out, and I was labelled this ‘precocious kid’, and I felt if I lost that I wouldn’t be as impressive anymore. But I actually feel like I’m getting better at making music as I get older. I’m inspired by more complex things and have more references to draw on. So I think that fear has been quelled. I’m still quite young, though. I don’t have it all figured out.”
