🚨 BREAKING: Christian evangelist acquitted after Crown Prosecution Service advances LGBT “safe space” argument in Soho

Christian evangelist Richard Johnson, has been found NOT GUILTY after facing nearly two years of prosecution for peacefully distributing an illustrated Gospel tract in Soho.

Mr Johnson, who has been supported by the Christian Legal Centre, was prosecuted under section 4A of the Public Order Act 1986 after two complainants said they were distressed by the tract’s Christian teaching on sin, judgment, repentance and salvation.

During the trial, one complainant described Soho as an LGBT “safe space”, while the CPS placed significant emphasis on Mr Johnson’s decision to distribute the tract in an area closely associated with the LGBT community.

His legal team argued that this amounted to an attempt to create a de facto “gay buffer zone”, in which lawful Christian expression could be judged by a different standard.

The court concluded that, although the tract had caused offence and upset, the prosecution had failed to prove the elements necessary to establish a criminal offence. The magistrates recognised the high threshold that must be crossed before freedom of expression can be restricted. A defence costs order was also granted.

We are pleased that Richard has finally been vindicated, but it is deeply troubling that the CPS was prepared to pursue this case.

No London or any neighbourhood across the country should be transformed into a censorship zone where lawful beliefs are suppressed or criminalised because they are controversial or unwelcome.

CHINESE NATIONAL RESCUED FROM NEPAL TUNNEL 10 DAYS AFTER FLASH FLOOD

A Chinese national was pulled alive from a tunnel in Nepal on Saturday, authorities said, 10 ‌days after a wall of ice, rock and mud tore through a Himalayan valley, killing more than 1,300 people.

The Nepali army said Lu Haitao was rescued from inside a 225-meter tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project.

He was the third person so far to be pulled out alive from various tunnels where ​authorities believe 900 people might be stuck after the August 26 collapse of a glacier on the upper reaches of the river.(Wire photos) | via @Reuters

MANILA DECLARES LEPTOSPIROSIS EPIDEMIC

UPDATE: Manila declares a leptospirosis epidemic with an infection rate spike of 3.48 percent from 1.27 percent in a week, city health officer OIC Dr. Grace Padilla said Monday, Sept. 7.

Padilla said a number of local government hospitals, including Ospital ng Maynila, Sta. Ana Hospital, and Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital, are at capacity from flood-related cases.

The city government said the antibiotic doxycycline may be availed of for free in 44 health centers and seven district hospitals.

A Hong Kong family threw out a full meal after identifying a toxic crab that had been cooked with their squid, local reports said.

The crab, mixed into squid bought at a Sham Shui Po market, carried tetrodotoxin — lethal in small amounts, no antidote, and heat-resistant, the reports said. A family member identified it with an AI search after finding it unfamiliar.

Six days ago, we posted the 24-hour accumulated rainfall over the Zambales region, which reached up to 200 mm over an already saturated landscape following days of persistent Habagat rains.

The area affected by this extreme rainfall covers approximately 1,400 square kilometers, or about 1 billion square meters.

Put into perspective, this represents roughly 276 million cubic meters of rainwater, equivalent to about 112,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools falling over the mountainous landscape.

That enormous volume of water was subsequently conveyed downslope and into low-lying communities across Zambales (e.g., San Marcelino), Bataan (e.g., Dinalupihan, Hermosa), Pampanga (e.g., Lubao, Floridablanca, and San Fernando), and Tarlac (e.g., Tarlac City).

When the rainfall distribution is overlaid with the flood hazard maps, a striking pattern emerges. The communities downstream of the mountainous area that had extreme rainfall correspond closely with the communities that were subsequently reported to have experienced flooding.
