One thing I've learned from working with businesses is that revenue can be misleading. A company can generate millions in sales and still struggle to meet basic obligations. In most cases, the problem is weak cash flow management, poor pricing, low profit margins or inadequate financial controls.
Meanwhile, the marketing, sales and communication teams are doing the very best!
The state is seeking Sh2.7 billion for AI-powered social media analysis and a National Communication Centre.
As a communications professional, I have one question.
Where is the public consultation on what this system will monitor, who controls the data and what the safeguards are?
A communications system without accountability is just surveillance with better branding.

I started off social media marketing as an influencer marketer but I had to do more to build my credibility to become a thought leader in the social media marketing space. You may ask, how did I do it from building trust, earn respect from my audience based on my expertise, integrity and reliability. Well, I focus on 7 pillars to ensure I stay in the game👇🏾
1. I’m an EXPERT. I always and will show up for conversations and discussions to share my deep understanding of the topics within my industry.
2. I’m TRANSPARENT. I share my experiences, successes, failures and lessons learned in my journey to help me establish authenticity and relatability.
3. Can we talk about SOCIAL PROOF?Once in a while, I brag about my endorsements, positive reviews from satisfied clients and mentions from industry experts. This has helped me validate my expertise big time!
4. I never joke with my PROFESSIONALISM! Just do a research about Janet Machuka. I have maintained a polished online presence, adhered to industry standards and delivered content that is well-researched, well-written and visually appealing from time to time. Give me my flowers 💐😄
5. I’ve been in the game for almost 8 years now and building this longterm credibility and trust has been guided by my INTEGRITY! When it comes to ethical standards, I reign 👸
6. I make myself accessible to my audiences through ENGAGEMENT be it through comments, responding to questions, being part of community conversations and discussions. This has helped me demonstrate to my audience that I am not only available to them but responsive and that I have a genuine interest in their needs and concerns.
7. Lastly, you can never build to become a thought leader without being CONSISTENT. Are you committed to the niche you’ve selected? Is the content keeping your audience glued to your timeline? Can people remember you from time to time to come and read what you share?
I hope to see you in the game 30 years later, thriving and making money 💰💴
We’re having our first event this year on 31st January. The curation approach will be nothing but amazing. I can’t wait to moderate my session powered by @ATCDigitalAcad.

Raila Amollo Odinga: The End of an Era, The Weight of a Legacy
Whether you agreed with him or not, Raila Odinga was never just a politician. He was a movement, a mirror and a lesson in endurance.
For decades, he stood at the center of Kenya’s story. He challenged systems, demanded fairness and pushed boundaries most wouldn’t dare touch. He taught a generation that leadership is not only about holding power, but about holding on to conviction even when power keeps slipping away.
Raila’s name was never whispered; it was debated, defended and defined by those who saw in him either hope or resistance and sometimes both.
That’s what makes a legacy iconic. It forces a country to think, to question, to feel.
Today, Kenya doesn’t just mourn a man. We mourn a symbol of courage, imperfection and persistence in the face of impossible odds.
History will write his story in many tones. But one thing will remain true: he showed us that conviction, no matter how contested, can outlive titles.
Rest well, Baba. You moved a nation.

When I sat down with Hannah Githuki to have this conversation, it was clear that Influence ≠ Impact ≠ Brand ≠ Money.
They feed each other when built in the right order.
Brand is your reputation and story.
Influence starts with trust. You can’t fake it.
Impact turns that trust into action.
Money? It flows when all three align.

Have you ever questioned yourself if you are moving too slow? I know at times you feel like the industries love to glamorize overnight success.
For example, you’ll see young marketers blowing up on social media, PR pros landing big clients and creators going viral. Suddenly, you start questioning if you’re moving too slow.
Something we never talk about more often is how the best marketers, PR and comms professionals have gone through.
They built through late nights, failed campaigns, lost clients and sometimes they found themselves in quiet seasons where they question themselves if they’re even good enough.
Success in this space isn’t about speed.
It’s about staying power.
It’s showing up when a campaign flops.
It’s staying curious when trends shift.
Most importantly, it is keeping your integrity intact even when it’s not fashionable.
By all means, focus on the wins and the end goals but don’t chase quick wins. Build a career worth remembering. After all, when the noise fades, what remains is your work, your reputation, and the impact you made over time.
Keep going even if it is slow. Be intentional while on it and please, build with purpose.
This post is inspired by @Hannah Githuki, a businesswoman l really adore and admire for how she is building her legacy and impacting many of us.
Customers don’t talk in metrics. They talk in feelings. Metrics guide us. Emotions close the deal.
These 7 emotional super selling techniques will change the way you approach your marketing. I’ll use the travel industry as an example.
1. Belonging
↳ Sell the tribe and you sell the ticket. Travelers want to feel part of a community.
2. Trust
↳ Safety, reliability and seamless planning. This is what everyone is looking for. Emotions of security convert better than flashy ads.
3. Hope
↳ Sell the dream, the future memory they’ll create (“Imagine watching the sunrise in Zanzibar…”). The mental picture is powerful. Visualize it if possible. Use past experiences from your customers. You can even use AI to actuate the dreamy experience.
4. Pride
↳ Position experiences as milestones (“a trip worth bragging about”).
5. Relief
↳ Remove stress. Highlight how you handle all the planning chaos for them.
6. Joy
↳ Show the fun, laughter and unforgettable moments at the destination.
7. Inspiration
↳ Tap into their curiosity and love for adventure.
Do you always wake up and feel lucky that you can see another day even if you’ll have it rough you just say thank you?
I hope you love life and to live.
The days of relying on branded content are over. Social media algorithms are now rewarding authentic content from people and not brand (business) pages. Leverage employee advocacy and CEO presence. People connect with people. Nowadays, people are winning more on social media.
