I'm just gonna say it.
Okay lang if may ma-offend sa team nya, but I honestly think they fumbled this one.
Parang hindi naipakita kay Sen. Risa kung gaano kalawak ang reach ng WinRi across different generations. She kept referring to us as "mga bata," when in reality, ang daming moms, professionals, at even older supporters sa Facebook ang openly defending her ngayon because kinilig sila sa WinRi.
I think they could have prepared her better. Kahit simpleng heads-up lang about who the fandom actually is, or even asking Karen beforehand to steer clear of WinRi questions if they didn't want to entertain them. Sometimes preserving the mystery is the smarter PR move.
What disappoints me the most is that it feels like she thinks the "Winners" are just a bunch of giggly fifteen-year-olds.
We're not.
A lot of us are working professionals. We have careers, families, mortgages, bills, and taxes to pay. We just happen to enjoy this little corner of the internet because it's a fun escape from everything else.
For context, I've been watching Senate sessions since the Erap impeachment. Marami sa amin ang matagal nang politically aware. We didn't start paying attention because of a ship, we stayed because we genuinely care about public service, and WinRi just happened to make that space feel a little lighter.
That's why this whole thing feels so disappointing.
She doesn't owe us anything. We all know that. Pero ang hirap na yung efforts of the fandom is being reduced to this.

Akbayan Party strongly condemns the death threats directed at Senator Risa Hontiveros, our highest-elected party leader in government. We call on the authorities to act immediately to identify, investigate, and prosecute those responsible. Death threats and intimidation have no place in a democratic society. Democracy depends on the free exchange of ideas, where political differences are expressed through peaceful dialogue, debate, and democratic processes, not through fear, violence, or threats to life.
We cannot become a country where death threats are treated as normal, whether they come from public officials, or private individuals. A culture of threats is a threat to democracy itself. It creates fear, silences criticism, discourages people from speaking out, and undermines the peaceful and secure life that every Filipino deserves. No one should fear for their safety for expressing an opinion, demanding truth and accountability, or serving the public.
Senator Risa has consistently stood for human rights, truth, and accountability, and has often been the target of harassment and disinformation. Akbayan stands firmly with Kasamang Risa. We will not be intimidated, and we will continue to defend our democratic space where dissent is protected and public servants can perform their duties without fear. We call on all to reject the politics of violence and uphold justice, respect, and peaceful democratic engagement.

when Leni was called lugaw, accused of joining a rally, accused of having an affair; when Kiko was called unggoy, falsely painted as a defender of child criminals, and had his own daughters like Kakie attacked; when Leila was removed from her chairmanship, shamed inside the Senate halls with fake videos, and thrown into jail; when PNoyโs legacy was unfairly tainted by fake news; when Maria Ressa received death threats and made-up cases; we were all individually shouting into the void, with no one listening.
but now we are here for Sen. Risa and I hope we get the chance to be there for the others who have stood with her and for the Filipinos as well someday.

It's easy to mock the person fighting for your rightsโuntil those rights are the ones protecting the people you love.
Salamat sa lahat ng to Ma @risahontiveros , kahit minsan di naappreciate ng iba.. โค๏ธ
always looking forward to your questions, SenRi, you always ask the questions most of us want answers to and explain things in the simplest way possible. ๐๐ผ
- who Princess Maui actually was
- whether oplan romanov is a threat on the life of the President
this is so cute talaga. it's giving, "wait, d'yan lang kayo, picture tayo." kapag si mutya ang nag-request, wala na, can't say no talaga.
our selfie stick queen talaga. cuteee. ๐ฅน
Thereโs been some back and forth earlier today, and we couldnโt let tonight end without speaking on it as well.
Risa is a person in her own right.
For well over a decade, she has built her name through hard work, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to what she believes in. People know that. Even those who disagree with her know that. She has earned that recognition.
Last night, she was met with cheers from what seemed like most, if not the entire, coliseum. And weโd like to believe those cheers were for one simple reason:
Because she is Risa Hontiveros.
This isnโt about discrediting anyoneโs support. Itโs simply a reminder that her reception didnโt begin with this fandom, nor is it dependent on it. Whether fans were in that audience or not, the warmth she received felt genuine because it was for someone who has spent years earning the publicโs respect.
And if weโre being honest, most people here didnโt become admirers of Risa overnight either. Many have followed her work long before any shipping discourse existed. It just so happened that, somewhere along the way, she became associated with a colleague, and that introduced both of them to an even wider audience.
So no, sheโs not suddenly getting attention.
Sheโs always had it.
Whatโs different now is that more people are paying attention. Some out of curiosity, others because theyโre only now discovering what so many have known for years:
She is Risa Hontiveros. ๐
We were glad to welcome WinRi supporters Kayla and Marj to the Senate.
Thank you for your continued support and for taking an interest in how Sen. Risa and I carry out our work.
