🇪🇺 All 55 European nations just voted to boycott the World Cup

UEFA, the body that runs European soccer, met today and voted 55 to 0 to pull their national teams out of all future men's and women's World Cups. The richest bloc in world soccer is walking out on FIFA.

The fight is over money. FIFA wants to spin off a new company and sell about 20% of the World Cup's commercial rights to private investors at a $20 billion valuation. The lead group lined up to buy in is Thrive, headed by Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law.

UEFA's answer was blunt: the World Cup is not for sale, and no European team plays another FIFA tournament until the plan is dead for good.

Here's who vanishes from the tournament if this holds:

2030 men's World Cup: Spain, the reigning champions, plus France and England

2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil: Spain again as defending champs, plus most of the other European semifinalists

Infantino calls it the "democratization of football," even as FIFA reportedly offers federations up to $40 million to vote yes before September 19, and just $10 million if they don't.

FIFA set out to sell the World Cup for $20 billion and might end up with a tournament missing the champions, the finalists, and the teams that make it worth that much.
