@umbraticusbr@GigaBasedDad You’ll be happy to know that scripture condemns faith built upon fear
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”
@krfishy1@Provokatov Because dictionaries and definitions are descriptive not prescriptive. If the meaning of a word changes in popular use, the dictionary will reflect that
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku Oftentimes the reason people need life support is because of the fact their organs are not functioning autonomously, just as a fetus' organs lack the ability to function autonomously of the mother's support.
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku If someone being able to sustain their life without external means is your standard for possessing human value, then are people on life support not human? What if someone’s born with a defect where they need some sort of external device to live their whole life? Is it a Human?
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku A baby does not have a functioning reproductive system. Its brain and most of its organs are still undergoing development. Why should I accept homeostasis as being the point where a human suddenly gains their moral value?
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku A baby doesn’t have all the characteristics of an adult, so where do you draw the line? Any line you draw will ultimately be arbitrary. And once again you’re just straight up being unscientific. Every biologist will tell you a fetus of a species is still belonging to that species
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku I think you might be mixing up human as a philosophical concept and human as the biological species of homo sapien. Nobody denies that fetuses are Homo sapiens, the debate is whether they deserve the same moral worth as fully grown Homo sapiens.
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku No, your kidney is a kidney. Just because a fetus is at a lesser stage of development doesn’t negate the fact it’s a homo sapien. An organism doesn’t suddenly conform to a species at a certain stage of development. A fetus is an organism of the homo sapien species.
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku The seed of a maple tree is not a tree because a tree DEFINITIONALLY is fully grown. A fetus is a human, which is just another way of saying homo sapien.
@GBresimo@HaruhiismOtaku Bad comparison because a tree isn’t a species, but a stage and form of development of several different types of species. A maple seed, however, is still an Acer just the same as a full grown maple tree. In like manner, a human is a human regardless of its developmental stage.
@PamphletsY Reminder: The German Air Force was defeated by the Royal Air Force and Germany suffered industrial bombings at the hands of the western allies as well as intel losses by the British. Also, the Soviet Union was from the beginning provided with vital wartime equipment by the US.
@vezerion1@McCarthyist2 Maybe? But that’s only because America has 2 parties so whenever the leader of one does bad people naturally gravitate toward the other regardless of their agreement. I’d say in the rest of the world people are becoming more reactionary. Growing unrest to immigration, lgbt, etc
