K-Diamond shared an analysis of ARIRANG they came across after reading through piles of hate comments. It's long, but it's worth a read. (I used google translate.)
Lee Young-ho (5 minutes ago): I listened to all the songs, and it seems what BTS wants to convey is that they have moved beyond the stage of feeling bewildered and puzzled by their situation of standing at the center of fame and controversy, and are now trying hard to accept that it is only natural. They likely also felt the pressure to deliver a performance worthy of that status. Going through COVID-19 and military service, BTS's name value suddenly skyrocketed both domestically and internationally. At the same time, they were frequently mentioned in the news due to various unprecedented incidents. The problem is, I wonder if they ever had the opportunity to express their thoughts, bewilderment, and gratitude regarding their rise to global stardom. After all, singers are supposed to speak through their songs. Filling their lyrics solely with wandering and confusion would be considered arrogant; sticking to their old ways would mean they are already alien-like beings; and simply returning with a new look is too much of a burden to bear. Now, they themselves must break the shell that the world of BTS has built; however, when they actually try to break it, it turns out to be an insubstantial illusion, yet if they choose not to, they are left speechless. So, what emerged was "Swim," about a life that simply moves forward; "Merry Go Round," the difficult emotion felt while living that life; and the hip-hop and lyrical elements that fans wanted. No, rather than what fans wanted, it seems they simply wanted to present a comprehensive gift set of music prepared by gathering everything they were good at. Since they have no way to accurately explain their current position and situation, perhaps they reflected on the identity of their beginning. It sounds like a confession that in a voyage of constantly overcoming waves—not a linear world, future, or universe with a fixed destination—the only one accompanying them is you, their compass. It seems the only thing certain for them right now is you, who is with them at the beginning. With the mindset of a navigator who believes that their future journey is simply the path they walk; in the vast ocean, a map is meaningless. The only thing that helps is the compass.

🐨 There are creators all around the world. Please help them.
🐨 Give them the financial support so that their own creativity can bloom.
🐨 Give them the opportunities so that their talents can really shine.
🐨 When you think about investing in tomorrow's generations, think about culture as well as economics.
