Who cares he gave a bad review? I care that a pay for clicks reaction YouTuber can facade as a pro critic and say it’s “main character syndrome” for an artist to lament her medical suffering on an album (surprise!) about her own life. He’s a raised-by-4chan edgelord bully. Yuck.
Jake truly ate here, we’ve been seeing livies or other delusional people keep attacking Taylor for writing some fun, silly and catchy lyrics and totally ignoring what it really is. If you don’t have the time to watch the full video, here are few most important parts of it:
“Whenever people are foolish enough to try to come for Taylor Swift's songwriting, probably the most ridiculous thing you can try to attack when it comes to Taylor Swift. It always makes me laugh. […] Almost all excellent songwriters are kind of one or the other. They are like a serious, artistic songwriter who is known for their lyricism or they are excellent at crafting hit pop songs. Taylor Swift can effortlessly, effortlessly do both of these things. […] Like she is Carole King, but she is also Madonna. […] Mind you, she's also writing the melodies here, so that's a whole other skill that we're not even talking about. […] I don't think that any artist throughout history has ever been able to straddle this line so impeccably. Usually, you are seen as a great creator of songs, like someone who is amazing at writing hits and things that are catchy and universal, or you are seen as someone who is a "quote-unquote" serious songwriter. Taylor Swift is both. When you try to make fun of Taylor Swift for her incredible pop music, you are actually just complimenting her and acknowledging that she is able to do something that almost no other artist can actually do. She actually can do both.”
Halsey responds to Anthony Fantano saying that people cared more about his review of her last album ‘The Great Impersonator’ than the album itself:
“I’m certain my least memorable song will be remembered more fondly and for more time than anything you ever do with your life will be. Everything you say is more “whiny” and “edgy” than I was at any point on that album. But at least I had the excuse of going through chemo.”
“mr swift” discourse will never not be funny because it’s like, “so, you agree: the act of changing one’s name when one gets married is an act of submission and diminishes one’s personal identity and accomplishments” but they never fully metabolize it
Gay marriage is not legal in Japan right now. A lot of BL coming out right now include weddings because they are fighting for it to be legalized. Either through awareness and/or donating some of the proceeds to fight for the cause. This is literally an LGBT rights movement there.
She’s trying to express how femininity shouldn’t have to fit in a box and women can feel and be different things despite societal expectations and y’all talking about “she’s nonbinary” … Omg I would actually rather y’all tell me to get in the kitchen and make a sandwich
