This week, we attended a two-day workshop to co-create a declaration for #OldGrowth. This workshop, hosted by Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship, is part of the Old Growth Strategic Review and once the declaration is completed, it will apply to all sectors.

BREAKING: The Pacheedaht, Ditidaht, & Huu-ay-aht First Nations have formally given notice to the @bcndp to defer #oldgrowth logging for two years in the #FairyCreek & Central #Walbran areas on while the nations prepare resource management plans. #bcpoli

Media Release: In his forest policy announcement yesterday, @jjhorgan missed a critical opportunity to halt logging in at-risk #oldgrowth forests, build public trust, & prove the @bcndp are serious about the forestry paradigm shift they promised last fall. https://t.co/dmlW1O6296
The @bcndp government has just been handed the keys to ensure much of the grandest, most endangered #oldgrowth forests in B.C. get protected.
@jjhorgan @KatrineConroy, will you use this golden opportunity to finally end the War in the Woods? #bcpoli https://t.co/gDG5OVi6J2
This is where the protection thresholds land (blue line) against the distribution of tree size diameters in the BC Big Tree Registry.
To the right of blue line are protected.
That 'spruce on a logging truck' is but a stick in the woods compared to other known giants, >4m dbh
I doubt this behemoth is 'large enough' to warrant protection
Under the current regulation, a Sitka spruce must be 2.85m diameter at breast height (dbh) to warrant protection.
I believe this tree is closer to 2.6m dbh (diagram below)
Arrests on logging roads mark a dramatic escalation, but the root cause of this conflict is the BC government’s delay and inaction on old-growth.
@jjhorgan needs to know that Talk And Log isn’t acceptable.

@jjhorgan protects corporate profits over people + our rights to a healthy planet & safe future.
Corporations have logged old growth down to almost nothing, when is it enough?

We have confirmation of what many suspected from @jwsthomson and @CapitalDailyVic: that the #bcndp@jjhorgan government was involved in the Pacheedaht Band Council's statement against third-party interference and activism at #FairyCreek#bcpoli https://t.co/QjPelyUfGH
BC Timber Sales (BCTS) couldn't even comply w/BC's low-bar #OldGrowth forest policies - and despite a new report highlighting errors + risks to #biodiversity, they're still auctioning off cutblocks https://t.co/OLEkCz3vSv #bcpoli
The times are a changing. Gotta change forestry along with it!
"When I grew up, the ranchers were not environmentalists... It was very black and white. There were the loggers, and then there were the tree huggers. Now it’s not really like that." https://t.co/V5RBfbnGeb
Thrilled to have landed the cover story of @bcmagazine with my before & after images from the Caycuse Valley. So much effort goes into capturing these shots and my hope is always that they reach as wide an audience as possible. @jjhorgan@bcndp, you can't hide from this. #bcpoli
Short film just released about forestry (>1000 ha clear-cuts) and floods in the Boundary-Kootenay region of BC.
Also, watch the 'live' interviews which gave valuable forward-looking ideas for building a more sustainable forestry in BC.
Here is the replay of my live screening of Water Logged and discussion w Jennifer Houghton + Herb Hammond about BC forestry. It was a great conversation. Check it out! (Forgive the dropouts of Herb's connection, he always comes back within a few seconds :)

@OrcaCedarbough Remember that what you are doing is important. Your just the vessel for something that needs to happen, for things that need to be said.
The photos of the thousand year-old trees in #FairyCreek are obviously powerful, but it's the simple google earth screen grab that really highlights this issue.
It's the only watershed for 100s of kilometres with no logging in it.
Be sure to follow @SaveFairyCreek.

On Tuesday March 16, 7pm I'll discuss BC old-growth forests online with Capilano University: what's left and how to steward what remains. Register now.
I hope it can contribute to evolving our relations with old-growth in the post-old-growth-review era
