US-Israeli strikes hit the Pasteur Institute of Iran, a leading health research institution, according to a government official, as relief agencies warned against mass attacks on medical facilities in the region.

The institute, one of the “century-old pillars” of global health in the region, was struck in a “direct assault on international health security,” Hossein Kermanpour, head of the information center at the Iranian Ministry of Health, posted on X on Thursday.

Established in 1920, it is the first and oldest public health center in Iran – where staffers pioneered vaccine development and research on the prevention of infectious diseases.

CNN has reached out to CENTCOM and the Israeli military for comment.

More than 30 days of US-Israeli bombing on Iran and retaliatory Iranian strikes on Israel has depleted medical systems and laid waste to entire neighborhoods in Iran and Lebanon, killing thousands of people across the Middle East.

At least 316 health care and emergency centers have been damaged in Iran since February 28, the Iranian Red Crescent reported on April 1. On average, health care systems in Iran, Lebanon and Israel have come under attack about once every six hours, the NGO, Save the Children said on March 31.

Last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) reiterated that health workers, patients and health facilities “must always be protected under international humanitarian law.”

The Israeli government is well able to fund the Iron Dome system, which has proven critical to keep innocent civilians safe from rocket attacks and bombardment.

Consistent with my voting record to date, I will not support Congress sending more taxpayer dollars and military aid to a government that consistently ignores international law and U.S. law.

Netanyahu’s allies in the Knesset just approved a $45 billion defense budget, and the Prime Minister himself also asserted his interest in withdrawing from the MOU with the United States in January. It is fully within their ability to fund Iron Dome and other defensive systems.

The Iranian side has simply communicated its conditions to [the U.S.] and even that has been done indirectly,” adding that U.S. messages have also only been passed through intermediary countries.

🔸 The same official said Iran’s conditions for ending the war include:

1. A simultaneous ceasefire in Iran, Lebanon, and Iraq, rejecting a limited deal like the 2025 “12-Day War,” which Tehran says was used to buy time for renewed attacks.

2. On missiles, the official said: “Given its defensive nature in countering Israel, this program will continue unchanged and with increased intensity in the event of a ceasefire… The missile program shall not be subject to negotiation under any prospective talks.”

3. On nuclear policy, the official said: “In light of the violations of international law by the United States, as well as Israel’s extensive attacks on nuclear facilities, Iran will formulate a new doctrine,” and that enrichment activities “will continue, either independently or in cooperation with China and Russia.”

4. On reparations: The official added Iran will pursue compensation for damages caused by U.S. and Israeli strikes in any future agreement.

🔸 Iranian officials say Trump’s public statements are aimed at stabilizing markets, with one official saying: “The fact that he publicly responds… is solely intended to manage the financial markets—nothing more.”

🔸 Trump, meanwhile, continues to insist talks are happening, saying his envoys held “very strong talks” and adding he won’t identify the Iranian contact because “I don’t want him to be killed.”

🔸 Iranian officials say U.S. messages, received through intermediaries, are inconsistent and “difficult to assess,” and any willingness to halt attacks appears to be “aimed at reassuring” intermediator countries and are “not taken seriously,” by Tehran.
