Regime change appears to be going well in Iran. A day after a million-strong procession in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei’s funeral reached Qom, where yet more vast crowds turned the city’s streets into a sea of mourners. The ceremonies will move to Iraq’s Najaf and Karbala, before a final farewell in Mashhad, where he will be laid to rest beside Shia Islam’s Eighth Imam. If official attendance estimates prove accurate, the six-day, five-city farewell across Iran and Iraq would rank among the largest funeral ceremonies ever recorded.
