Last week I was in Nairobi, Kenya to attend three major conferences which I believe were a good networking and learning ground to continue to build Maltiti Foundation and the other social enterprises that I lead.

Among the conferences attended were the 5th African Women Summit, AllAfrica Media Leaders Summit, and the United Nations Civil Society Conference.

I also made a brief stop in South Africa to hold two meetings with leaders in the recycling and waste management space and to leverage their expertise and influence to set up in Ghana as a means to tackle our waste management challenges as well as serve as a source of employment for the many marginalized women and girls that our organization targets.

It was also a good time to reconnect with some members of the Obama Leadership Network both in Kenya and South Africa.

Two nights ago we received a distress call from a relative who works as a nurse at the ridge hospital in Accra.

We’ve received similar calls from her in the past to step in and assist patients who are usually unable to settle their bills either at the maternity ward or the children and pediatric ward. By the grace of God we are mostly able to assist them in doing so.

But yesterday’s was different. Her call had to do with three children with different conditions on admission at the paediatric ICU whose parents and family couldn’t do anything about their situation. They could not afford medical bills neither could they buy medication to continue treatment and so we had to step in.

We were able to get all the medicines needed at the cost of over GHS 3000.00, together with a cash donation of GHS 10,000.00 to help with other cost that may come up. However there was one peculiar issue. Magdalene.

Magdalene is a five year old child with a brain tumor who needs immediate surgery to save her life but her father is unable to afford the cost of the surgery and we are not so much in a good position to pay the full cost of the surgery and that’s why for the first time we’ve decided to come out to seek the support of the public to help save Magdalene’s life so she can go back to school and have a normal life just like her friends.

Magdalene needs One hundred thousand Ghana Cedis(GHS100,000.00) for the surgery. We are therefore calling on you to help save her life.
