Currently teaching Pre-Calc & Geometry, but my interest in math is infinite ;). Looking to grow professionally, personally & make friends along the way.
Attending @NCTM next week?
Or @MathEdLeaders the following week?
Me too!
As the self-appointed anti-Covid chair for both conferences 😉, here is your 5⃣step guide to not getting or spreading Covid at our gatherings.
My credentials? I've never had Covid.

@druinok Like “who got more sleep last night?” Or “who lives with the least people at home?” I really should generate a bunch and put them in a jar so each class gets to know their partners. Ss are experiencing new levels of shyness and social anxiety than before. Shy I can help with.
@druinok Getting Ss to engage this yr has been a struggle. For summer school I’m finding success by getting them to know their partners and groups better? I give some quick prompts to decide who should get supplies, etc. & am starting to see results with discussion. Might work? Idk
@druinok Did anyone send anything in for this? I was almost wondering myself if using one of those cube or tiles let’s me make it up and typing it was even worth it… idk. I’ve been obsessed with trying to put together some stuff for a while now.
@DWLovesMath @EAwaah I do this same thing but dedicate a section of my wall that is away from my desk for this. They tell me “I turned this in!” & I direct them to the wall. Saves me from hearing them mumble anything about putting their name. Sometimes I can sleuth it out but… y do I do it? Idk
@dhabecker But all too often the Ss aren’t building the stamina they need for tests and then tests are “hard” bc there are so many problems and the practice is varied. No easy answers but hopefully your student will learn to communicate w/ their T. Might be more impactful coming from them?
@dhabecker I’m finding my higher Ss practically never argue with practice bc they are so fast, but that also makes them careless and I would never catch those errors if I only gave them a few problems to do. Then when they see the error bc it’s been pointed out they make the adjustment.
@DrKSimps @dhabecker @jdwilliams Although I think it is important to get a problem and assess, “what formula is important here?” Not the question I would ask with this set of problems, but a set could be created where the recall of formulas is important too.
@_DavidDahari_ @dhabecker When you say taught him to use Google Sheets did you create the formulas for them or have them create them and type them in? 2 different skill sets for each of those things.
@druinok In the rt triangle trig, quads, circle pieces for this semester. Started special rt triangles Tuesday. Our pacing is a little 😰 but I love the idea of collaborating :).
@JustinAion Other professionals are treated more like actual professionals though. Sooooo many decisions are made without our input. Not enough support & often have 2 perform miracles. Ts at my site will often say they don’t mind putting in extra time, just don’t demand or require it.
@MrSiegel1019 I don’t want to assume so that’s why I’m asking - did you pose this question to your students and that’s what they came up with? These are awesome either way but I’m not sure if it’s more funny if it comes just from them or more funny if you made them all yourself?
@druinok It very easily fits several water bottles or like a moleskin notebook and the front pockets are the perfect size for almost average sized smart phones (I could imagine a very large smartphone might not exactly fit). Straps put it at my hip if I want. I’m “average” height.
@druinok Are you looking for something more like a purse or to hold school papers or like for hiking or something? I do have a baggini bag that I originally got from like a Ross or something. They sell them on Amazon too. It’s got lots of pockets & roomy but not tote bag roomy.
