College is wild, because here I am desperately trying to finish a final project, and it's basically just my interpretation of King-Lu and Cookie from First Cow as a non-sexual husband and wife partnership.
@kagzhina I think it low-key makes sense for Eleanor (proximity to power and acceptance by men that she always cared about) but I don't really buy that Rogers is like... in love with her
@fishmoding I babysat someone else's saltwater tank for a summer and by the end the bathroom has flooded (improperly installed reverse osmosis filter) and filled up the light fixture in the kitchen until that got too heavy and fell to the ground. So uh, godspeed.
I am very much in favor of the yaoi and yuri-fication of fandom that has been underway lately, but I just saw someone calling destiel yaoi and for reasons I can't explain that feels deeply wrong.
@caeliuspiso I looked back and saw that you were talking about the scholarly definition of material history (my brain went to the lay definition :p) so this thread makes more sense sryy, but I still do kinda disagree. The ship recreations are super sick for example
@caeliuspiso Yes, at the end of the day, BS is entertainment first. That's what it is most deeply rooted in. But the show has what I feel is a very authentic (thought ultimately fictional) portrayal of the tensions between slavery, colonial resistance, resource management, and pirates.
