not a medical professional but i believe this stuff happens when a blood vessel breaks partially and blood slips between the layers, pulling them apart and ballooning them. Also fairly certain that the now escaping blood is slowly clotting and this guy might develop thrombosis

Overall you shouldn't feel too bad about NDs. It's part of owning guns, and you should get used to them.
