This week, we are launching a research effort into a world where the first audience for art may no longer be human.

Art has always lived inside systems. Patronage, galleries, criticism, institutions, markets, platforms, and social feeds have all shaped what becomes visible, what gains value, and what disappears.

What is changing now is the position of the first viewer.

A work may be filtered, summarized, ranked, compared, ignored, recommended, or purchased by a system before a human has formed a first impression. This does not mean human taste disappears. It means taste may increasingly be mediated by agents acting on behalf of people, institutions, collectors, and markets.

Preference becomes infrastructure.
Judgment becomes executable.

The Transient Research Division was created to investigate the systems now standing between artists, audiences, collectors, and cultural memory.

TRD will publish inquiries, memos, and findings on the forces shaping cultural attention. “I Used to Make Art for Humans” is the public name under which that research begins.

The goal is not to declare the future settled.

The goal is to make this transition visible while it is still unstable enough to question.
