कभी जंगल उजाड़ने वाली तो कभी छात्रों को आत्महत्या करने के लिए मजबूर करनी वाली यह एक निक्कमी, बेशर्म और तानाशाह सरकार है।

If I were a corporator, I’d start every morning by walking through every part of my ward. That’s the best way to understand the problems of not just residents, but also the people who work hard every day to keep our neighbourhood clean.

These handcarts can easily be converted into electric carts. I’d be happy to help make it happen if any corporator comes forward.

Small ideas like this can make a big difference to the women who keep Viman Nagar clean. I hope an educated corporator takes up this initiative instead of using some foundation to host Christmas party , this is the true word to be done

Instead of IPS, local citizens group should be allowed to inspect thanas and give report:

I know how these inspections are carried out. The inspection note is prepared by the Thana itself. They are not allowed to report the real condition of infrastructure and facilities. They do not write properly about the shortage of staff, poor buildings, lack of toilets, lack of public waiting space, lack of facilities for women, poor barracks, lack of basic equipment or the condition in which ordinary citizens are made to stand, kept and wait. What is reported is mostly routine data: number of cases registered, number of cases disposed, number of cases pending, years of pendency, branch wise working and other such figures.

On the basis of this data, a formal report is prepared by the same Thana and then signed by these colonial rulers as if a serious inspection has taken place. Such reports are not meant to reform anything. They are issued only to gather dust. The real idea behind such inspections is VIP treatment, guard of honour, protocol, fancy breakfast and lunch for the visiting senior officers. That is the reality of these inspections, and that is why our Thanas continue to lack even basic facilities.

The whole system is designed to serve the powerful, not the ordinary citizen. Departmental funds, time and energy are spent on pleasing and providing extra luxurious facilities to these colonial UPsC IAS IPs IRS such as arranging protocol and maintaining colonial showmanship, while the citizen continues to face worst public service.

Instead of getting police stations inspected by the colonial rulers, inspections should be carried out by citizens’ groups of that very area. Local residents, women representatives, lawyers, teachers, traders, social workers, and elected local representatives should inspect the Thana and report what citizens actually face and what Thana actually lacks. They should examine facilities, behaviour, accessibility, public grievance handling, women safety arrangements, cleanliness, transparency and whether the police station is citizen friendly or only officer friendly.

That is what democracy means. The police station exists for the people, not for the comfort and protocol of senior officers. If anyone deserves respect in a democracy, it is the citizen. Give the guard of honour to citizens while inspection. Give the breakfast and lunch to citizens. Let the people inspect the police station that claims to serve them.
